THE PRIEST'S PROGRAM is SIMPLY BELIEF; for example, " Belief in God. "

The 'true believer' identifies with a set of mythic stories which

were invariably created in the distant past. Each belief system tends

to exclude all others from the right path to truth. The beliefs of

the popular religions require little more of anyone than to dutifully

purchase the " product. " " To actually use the " product " is not

demanded in any profound sense. Just buy it, praise it, own it,

believe it and glamorize yourself by association with it. " (Da Free

John)

The popular church of almost any denomination appeals to the child in

us. Religion rekindles those lingering feelings of dependence in the

form of the God-Parent strategy. There seems a great desire in us all

to be reunited with a principle which is safe, caring and which as

such carries no real personal responsibility. Such feelings are

instantly gratified by any belief system which touches the longings

towards a womb-like parental existence. Consoling beliefs create a

sort of vaccine against fear and vulnerability. The cost of such a

vaccine is obedience.

In the Judaic, Muslim and Christian traditions the original guilt

came from the sin of sex and disobedience in the paradise gardens.

" Behold I was shapen in Iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive

me. "

In most popular Western religions there isn't even the chance to sin.

You are already born a sinner.

In the past you were in sin; in the present you are in sin; it is

only in the future that there is the possibility of redemption and a

chance of heaven for the obedient. This is the priest's Promise.

Heaven is never here/now, but always and ever here/after.

Whenever a God is seen as all powerful, omniscient and omnipresent

then the only necessary action we need to take is to be obedient. For

He is ultimately responsible for all and everything so no personal

responsibility is required from the worshiper. All you have to do is

believe — in Jesus, Jehovah, Krishna, Mohammed or whosoever, and your

place is assured in the promised land of the hereafter. This strategy

ensures that man remains childish, irresponsible and dependent on the

particular cult or belief. In return for faith and obedience you are

given an assurance against the fear of death of the ego. The priest

feeds us hope of salvation and a sense of superiority in knowing that

not only are we on the right path but also that we are the choser

people. Sadly the cost is to lose the real possibility for

transformatioin or for discovering the truth of who we are.
