Guest guest
THE PRIEST, THE PARENT, THE PEDAGOGUE AND THE POLITICIAN in general terms, can be viewed as four unconscious conspirators who are responsible for the programs which have been fed to every one of us. And we carry all of them within us unknowingly. As children we are fed old programs which have been made by someone else. Any intelligent child who rebels against such treatment is invariably regarded as an outcast or has to adopt another competing belief system. The son rejects his father's Fascist beliefs, yet promptly picks up a borrowed Socialist stance. Neither of these belief systems is his own inner vision or experience. The imposition of acquired knowledge on the small child is often done with the very best of intentions. The aim of most of the programmers is that the child should follow their particular belief and world view so that they are able to fit into the surrounding society. It was pointed out by Bertrand Russell that all the supremely gifted polymaths, scientists, inventors or eccentric adventurers had childhoods which had little or no pressure towards conformity. They were allowed and encouraged to experiment and pursue their own interests, whatever they might be. We are engulfed by ready-made, easy-to-serve concoctions on Capitalism, Communism, Fascism, or New Age Consciousness. The wrappings become even more exotic when the questions are spiritual, or on the nature of the universe, God, or our place in the scheme of things. But the programmers seldom admit that they just don't know anything. It is important, in the context of what you are reading at this moment, to remember it applies to this text as well. Dionysius, an early Christian mystic, once said: " Not knowing is the most intimate. " The state of innocent questioning has been lost and with it the capacity to ask questions of who we really are. Knowledge and belief get in the way, and unless we undertake the grueling task of de-programming ourselves — of breaking out of the rigid frames of other peoples' belief systems — we face the coming apocalypse as irresponsible and blind as the programmers themselves.
