To say the attention is unconditioned does not mean that to practice that means to endeavor to be unconditioned with attention. You are right, there is no way to *try* to have unconditioned attention. That is an excellent recommendation... no expectations. Unconditioned attention is not an ideal to be attained, but the eventual outcome of letting go of all expectations for attainment. It strikes me just now that the saying " just be " is not enough. Something needs to be added to that, as in: " Just be alert, attentive. Nothing more. Nothing less.
