As far as the criminal goes, he or she may very well deny his or her misconceptions and probably does and will not admit, as you will not, that their self-justifying excuses are irrational. As in, " I killed her because... " or " I robbed the bank because... " or I cut off her breasts and ate her genitals because..... " Very strange misconceptions, as are yours.
