False insights

Quite a few times, when trying to figure something out, either during a

conversation with someone or on my own, I have (what appears to be) an

iron clad insight. A sudden understanding, an " aha " accompanied by the

usual sense of relief, accomplishment, etc. However, just a few seconds

later, it's been followed by another apparent insight that revealed that

what I had previously thought was " right " or " correct " instantly becomes

completely incorrect. It's even happened that that " second " insight

(which apparently corrected the " first " insight) turned out to be

another " misapprehension. " Also, it's happened that after this chain of

events of each insight " proving the other wrong or inaccurate " , yet

another insight arose which showed that the " original or first " insight

was indeed correct/accurate to begin with. Go figure! :-)

I have experienced that.

I now believe that it all occurs within the attempt the pin down

thoughts with other thoughts.

Understandings occur....then thought tries to grab them and put them

in its imaginary pocket.

LOL...

but if another " insight " was able to contradict the

first, then the first was distilled into a succint form

that could be contradicted.

When so distilled... it is no longer an insight is it?

It has been reduced to a thought.

Maybe what you are describing is a sequence of ideas...

first X seems like a good idea, the ohh no, Y is a better

idea and X not so great etc.

As I see it an insight can never be boiled down, it is

simply an expanded state of consciousness (or some such)...

For example, an insight about communication *opens up*

the channels of interactive experience. It is not about

such-and-such is " right " . That is never an insight. An

insight *changes the way we experience*.

I was talking to a young man in The Rainbow Bean the other day.

In the middle of the conversation......he started reaching for a

pen....He searched for a writing instrument in every pocket....and

could find nothing.

He asked the girl behind the counter if she had a pen.......She said no.

He ran to his car and returned with a pen and a small pad of post-its.

'Now'....What did you say? " he said.

I looked at him and said:

" Hmmmm......I think I was talking about lemon-blueberry scones. "

When the Understanding arrives........you look around...all

excited....and light headed......you want to share it with

someone.......but every one has gone...the building is empty...there

is just you.....vibrating.....to the sound of your own song.

Vibrations coincide.....circle each other.....spin out-ward into a

crescendo.....and explode into a sparkling quiescence....

only to begin all over again........

Thank God we have 'vibrations' which not only vibrate, but circle

each other as well. Further to their circling of one another they

then 'spin out-ward. " Bam! " . That last bit is the crashing crescendo

that explodes( acts in a very big way) into a dormant and inactive

inertia that somehow vibrates sparkly things.Good thing we are not

around to see this stuff. We might think that there was something

more than Nothing and Noselves. But it reads so gently and smooth

like too. Beautiful......Beautiful. :-))

that does it... did I miss the talons before?

Here's a dash of W.B. Yeats:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre

The falcon cannot hear the falconer;

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all convictions, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity.

well... that's a little bit darker stuff...

but the *geometry's the same*!

And doesn't it all come down to geometry?

Re: " False " insights

Go figure! :-)

Michael

I find that odd. My experience is that an insight is complete or incomplete,

but is not erroneous. If it were so, I don't see what would make it an

insight. Who has an 'AHA!' moment to discover something completely worthless

and

invalid? What would be the source of such an 'insight'? No insight I've

'known' to be genuine has ever proven to be entirely false.
