Guest guest
I realized that I 'play' with meditation 'techniques' in pretty much the same way as I play with Sex techniques... [did that image " arouse " your interest?] So far my favorite meditations are following: - Vipassana* < http://www.meditatie.ro/eosho.htm > It makes me fall to sleep and I get very deep and restful sleep after it. I do it most nights as the last thing as I fall to sleep. - Witnessing** < http://www.friendsofosho.com/Topics/Enlightenment%20 & %20Joke%201.htm > I don't " do " it but, many times, it happens on its own. Sometimes, it happens when looking at a child, a bird, a flower, a person or... just looking into the emptiness with no 'object' to " LOOK AT " ... Sometimes, it happens while sitting in meetings, listening to conversations... Some times, it happens while reading something... Some times, it happens when reading someone like Papaji, Ramana, Osho, Adya, Katie, Niz, Tolle... Some time, it happens while " thinking " .... Many times, it happens while reading someone of the Internet groups like this.. Sometimes, it happens while writing something... Sometimes, it happens when looking at a picture of Ramana... As if my heart has suddenly 'melted', 'lighted'... gotten warm All Over... As if... there is just Blissful Formless Awareness... one that has no center, no circumference, no limit and no identification... As if it is just the formless Light of Love... submerging all... As if ...all is... this Love... As is there is no " all " ... ....only Love... --- * The breath goes out, watch; the breath comes in, watch. You will become aware: the breath touching your nostrils at one point, you will become aware. You can concentrate there: the breath comes in, you feel the touch of the breath on the nostrils; then it goes out, you feel the touch again. Remain there at the tip of the nose. It is not that you have to concentrate at the tip of the nose; you have just to be alert, aware, watchful. ... But as Vipassana moved from India to Tibet to China to Korea to Burma to Japan, slowly, slowly people became aware that it is easier to watch in the belly than at the nose. Then Buddha- statues started becoming different, with bigger bellies. You can watch either at the belly or at the nose, whichever feels right for you or whichever feels easier for you. That it be easier is the point. And just watching the breath, miracles happen. ** Only the witness is there, but nothing to witness, just nothingness all around. You have come to the witness. Many times, when I look at a picture of Ramana... something quite strange and unexpected happens... something that I feel somewhat *embarrassed* to 'admit'... as it might sound 'girly', 'childish', and 'romantic' or... immature... I " feel " a 'transformation' taking place... and, I feel as if it is 'I' that I am looking at! I feel as if I am looking through these eyes... smiling through the heart... as if I am looking at... 'my-self'! I feel as if I AM... this Heart, this 'living presence'... I am this Love... Ramana disappears... but, so does separate [separate from Ramana] 'I'... had it happened for the first time, there was a great chance that I could have gotten 'confused' about it... but, now my " good enough " , 'reasonable enough' explanation is that it is a simple result of high degree of concentration in an otherwise 'empty' Mind! However, it does give me glimpse into why many seers down the centuries have found great affinity with the images, pictures, statues or 'living form' of their guru... Why many might have claimed to " feel " a 'connection' with Jesus, Mother God... it also gives me some idea why many like Amma, Nirmala Devi might feel somewhat 'natural' to play the role of a Krishna, Shiva... it helps me understand meaning of 'unions' and 'living transmission'... > > As if my heart has suddenly 'melted', 'lighted'... > gotten warm All Over... > > > As if... there is just Blissful > Formless Awareness... > > one that has no center, no > circumference, no limit and no > identification... > > > As if it is just the formless Light of > Love... submerging all... > > As if ...all is... this Love... > > > As is there is no " all " ... > ....only Love... > > > > --- > > > * The breath goes out, watch; the > breath comes in, watch. Guest guest
.... It was through 'uncaused' witnessing that I had experienced my own " disappearance " ... ....and, how I had become an 'integral' Whole... in place of a fragment 'destined' to fight for its 'personal' survival and growth... whole moved though [what was previously] me... whole acted through [what was previously] me... the effort ceased... the resistance ceased... the 'distance' ceased... the barrier broke... the boundary broke... and, something strange happened... an ambulance passed through the road... and, tears came into my eyes without any known reason... children played, giggle and danced under the sunshine... and, I 'waved' with joy without any reason... Someone became angry, violent, and hateful and shouted... and, the 'body' [known as mine] burnt! as if with the 'barrier', 'boundary' gone... my 'defense mechanism' too has melted Away... as if I was just SPACE... and, I had NO Choice but to 'experience' and " feel " whatever 'passes thru'... with this 'shell' gone... I was not just 'vulnerable'... I was an Open SPACE through which everything passed and with [separate] 'me' gone... I had no choice... .... Sometimes, I also experienced 'anger'... and, now this anger was really 'unrestricted', 'unconfined' and also 'uncontrolled'... In one way, I was beginning to see the 'necessity', 'origin and 'root' of 'ego'... the 'controlling', 'discerning' mechanism... I was beginning to see why human beings are not just *natural*! Guest guest
This was also the time some called " me " ... 'enlightened'***... yet, I had also seen that if I really continued living 'this way'... my 'departure' would not just be... 'psychological'; it will be TOTAL... and, I was beginning to see that this was NOT 'socially predictable', professionally 'responsible' or [family] 'dependable' way to live... it seemed, if I was to [socially] 'live'... a 'personal' 'guide' was indeed necessary... no matter how 'imaginary' such a guide might be... even if the dream was Broken... now, I had to 'consciously' weave my own 'dream'... --- ***Luckily, pretty soon I discovered Ramana who among many other said things like: - there is no realization event. - if there was to be a 'beginning' of realization; there has to be an 'end' too. - What is Real is ALWAYS there. If realization is something " new " , it can not be REAL. - Blank is the evil result of looking for mind. - In place of 'meditating', just abide as the meditator! Yes. This among many other things... There is a 'response' that can automatically arise and play based on 'intuition' yet, this response may not always be in accordance with 'social obedience', 'family responsibility' and 'professional benefit'! 'Intellect' is one thing that attempts to 'guide' [and in some cases, control] the feeling, emotions, thought, action and response in these situations. I have experienced it many times in very trivial, 'practical' situation too... I sense a strong sense of 'affinity' with one of my female friend. Sometimes I walk out for a coffee with her; sometimes we drive together... sitting very close to her sometimes I feel this feeling so strong as if the air has gotten thick... I feel naturally inclined to touch her, hug her, embrace her... sometime, I fear that might actually do it... and, I feel it is only my 'intellect' [discerning ego] that protects me from doing so as doing that might be a socially irresponsible behavior. .... take you for example, Patricia... Based on your exchanges, I feel that if I was to meet you in person... it would be only my 'ego' [discerning intellect] that will protect you, me and rest of the society from...'me hugging you'... Guest guest
My third favorite meditation is... Inner Body Awareness... Simply put... it is feeling the body from inside, moving full focused Attention on the body from inside... I a way, it is trying to 'get to know' the body from the inside... and, I notice that more Aware of the body I get... freer I get of it... 'free' as in feeling like... 'not having' a body! My fourth favorite meditation is... death meditation which is akin to a 'mental suicide'... the [individual] mind committing hara-kiri... To imagine it, think... what will happen, if 'I was not there'... If I was not there to pass any comment on what 'should' or 'should not' happen, what is 'right' or 'wrong'... My fifth favorite meditation is 'dropping the identity'... which is quite simple really; as we go to sleep, or just move through our lives we [mentally] drop many things and people including our friends, lover, family, children and even more readily... Al Gore, Condoleeza Rice, Parish Hilton... we don't lie down or sit wondering [at least not always ]... 'what will happen to Paris Hilton'... We don't keep worrying about what will happen to Paris Hilton, whether her boyfriend would be faithful or not, what will her sister say about her, what will tabloid write about her... at some point we decide that what happens to 'Paris Hilton' is not really " my " problem! What if I dropped 'Arvind' [my 'identity'] in the same away... and, I decided that whatever 'could happen to Arvind' is not really " my " 'concern'... at least not NOW! What if I " choose " to become free of 'Arvind' as I choose to become 'free' of 'Paris Hilton'... .... I have noticed that it is quite *easy* really! All it takes is real *willingness*! Guest guest
And, then, there are some exceedingly brilliant Instant Meditations that Papaji taught: - just for a Moment, don't touch this 'I'. - just at this Moment... make absolutely no effort and don't stir any thought! - observe the Observer! I noticed that each of these have 'ability' to take one to the place for where 'I' arises... the place from where " thought " arises... the place from where " all " [else] arises... I found these 'methods' extremely effective and instantaneous and I reasoned, perhaps, then, it was not that surprising if so many experienced instantaneous 'Awakening' in Papaji presence!
