Guest guest
>> Some gurus say that life after enlightenment is about 'serving life'. What are your thoughts on that? I am not really sure if I understand the meaning of 'serving life'! I can understand serving myself or serving myself " by " serving the planet, humanity, country, friends, family, spiritual seekers, parents, children, spouse, industry, community but, I am not sure what 'serving life' means. Absolute Life that I understand... needs No service [as far as I understand]. Only Purpose that I can see related to Life [which I take to be synonymous with Consciousness] is that... When playing in forms, Consciousness progresses towards increasingly more Conscious forms and that way anything we do which helps human evolve into more Conscious being... is 'serving Life'! When we truly help ourselves become more 'Conscious' we help 'evolution' of Life in one form and thus we serve Life! When we " share " Awake Consciousness sincerely... we play our part in 'serving' Consciousness [spirit] within others! >> But, is not very idea of 'progress' an egoic idea? Isn't it only the ego that has interest in any kind of growth? In my experience, 'ego' is more like a 'FUNCTION' and, as our Consciousness grows and gains strength - we learn to do more and more without using this function. ....and, that to me appears to be the direct purpose of 'human evolution' Doing that by ourselves... is helping one life... sharing it is... playing part in helping many... An Awake Consciousness is like a burning candle, one conscious burning candle removes its immediate darkness and then it can help other candles to light by presenting a 'living example', a 'reminder'... as well as by transmission through 'contact'! Hey Arvind - It reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode (based on a short story by Clifford Simak) in which humans made contacts with extraterrestrials, and were able to decode the title of one of the extraterrestrials' books. It was " How to Serve Humanity. " Everyone was very happy, and held press conferences about our new friends. Then, the experts decoded more of the book, and issued a new release of information: " It's a cook-book. " Well, that's one thought, albeit a tangential one. Another thought I had about " serving life " is that John Gaddi (incarcerated Mafioso) probably viewed that term differently than Ramana Maharshi. But, if you want a unanimous understanding of the term, ask any bacterium, who will tell you: " Of course human beings serve life -- they have no choice! I like what Ramana said about this: that one who understands has no other to whom transmission would be made. One who understands, and the understanding, are not-two, and is all-inclusive. So, no " contact " with another is needed, sought, or even possible - and in the world of " appearance " there is always only " full contact " at all times, whether in a cave or in the marketplace. I'm not sure, though, why Ramana used the term " Self " except for the traditional use of that word -- with no " other " there is no " self " -- If having to choose a word, maybe could go with " Neisother. " Yours, Dan

[without " choosing " to get out of the way and, without " choosing " " not to choose " ...]
