Fighting against it is a misunderstanding only, not a real fight. Such a persvasive misunderstanding must have very deep roots in being human. One could say the misunderstanding is that I can separate myself as a being and be able to have what I want for myself -- and thus have myself as a possession that I protect and value. The misunderstanding is associated with an investment in having and obtaining.
