Conceptual thought works just fine for what it is.

No need to try to ride a bicycle across the Atlantic Ocean.

That's cute....but this was not offered as a koan,

You said:

" Conceptual thought works just fine for what it is.

No need to try to ride a bicycle across the Atlantic Ocean. "

It is my contention that all conceptual thought is delusional.

You state a case in which you apparentely are in opposition that view

and cite an example involving something called the " Atlantic Ocean " .

When asked exactly what this Atlantic Ocean thing actually is......you

elude the fact that no such thing actually exists and offer a

koan-like response.

** We can define, we can picture, we can make meanings, but

Freedom from meanings and implications is already the case,

always. 'A self' is one such meaning, implication, or

inference.

It's a big subject, but thanks for asking.

The self is by no means merely a concept. It's a deep-

seated, Hydra-headed emotional orientation. All the

'talking-school' Advaita stuff that many people have

latched onto and gleefully promote these days ain't

gonna touch it. ;)

the problem with your approach, toombaru, is it presumes

that the only reality is that as defined by words.

you then proceed to prove that whatever is in words is

fatuous and false.

certainly reality as that which is defined by words is indeed

fatuous and false.

but your entire approach is circular and doesn't really

show anything.

as long as you insist that reality is that as defined

in words you will have a null, nihilistic point of view.

you *do know* what vulnerability is.

you *do know* what deep joy is.

and you know those things quite apart from any

verbal characterization.

you know because you know in your heart.

what you know in your heart has no need of words.

your heart

go to it

it waits for you

you can't refuse

The Atlantic Ocean is; toombaru in a helicopter halfway to Europe,

where he is respectfully dropped into the water, and then if he makes

it ashore, he is given the chance to repeat his question again.

In the Quiescence that IS the Flowingness........no..no..that's not

the kind of thing that I want to say......I can't show you, I can't

tell you and I can't describe them as what they REALLY are or what

each one 'is'...(pity the poor lost lambs..Bah!). Ok Ok ...here it

is...for " Enlightened Beings " ...Nothing is Serious....some of the

more phoney enlightened duded and dudettes take that 'Not-

Seriousness' a little to seriously(ness)....and fall back into the

Rock and Rollness of their rocking chair... to think up some more

good'uns to get 'em.

Nope, I'm not in opposition. You apparently misinterpreted my

metaphor about the Atlantic Ocean to be oppositional to your point,

whereas it is a way of understanding the limits of conceptual thought,

while noting that conceptual thought can be useful in the right

context (just as a bicycle can).

I didn't say that no such thing as the Atlantic Ocean exists, again

your apparent misinterpretation.

If I explain these metaphors, and you use conceptual thought to try to

understand my explanation, won't this just lead to further delusion --

according to your belief that conceptual thought is delusional?
