These kinds of absolutistic statements don't make much sense to me.

 

If someone breaks into a drug store and steals pain-killing drugs,

doesn't it make a difference whether his motivation was that he is too

poor to afford drugs and his wife is dealing with cancer, vs. that he

is a drug addict who wanted a fix? Wouldn't you deal differently with

the person depending on what you assessed his motivation to be?

 

That's just one example, I'm sure there hundreds.

 

Assessing motives is just part of day to day human life.

 

In fact, people on this list seemed to be doing it just a little while

ago, when compaining about certain posters.

 

We don't claim certitude, but we know that making some kinds of

judgments in some situations is just part of how things work.

 

There is a distinction between the relative and the absolute. You may

say there are no separable entities absolutely, but if you can't deal

with differences, including differences in motivation, then you can't

deal fully with life. Life includes the day to day and the totality,

the differences and the undifferentiated.
