Guest guest
I think Bill is exhibiting the kind of integrity, dignity and sincerity few have the motivation or the commitment to display on a web site. I have, myself, protested vehemently elsewhere, against arbitrary and demeaning banter. But it's a tough row to hoe, since, instead of meeting with the immediate recognition of its infantile and destructive effects, one is often met with even greater denigration, even to the point of the most puerile forms of name calling and demonization. And all this in the name of so called enlightenment. Nothing light nor light bringing there. My solution has been to maintain an only half-serious predisposition, at all times. Thus, I remain, at least in my experience, invulnerable to either the all too cumbersome, on the one hand, or the all too satirical, on the other. My experience of so called " enlightenment " is that it is a state of ease. Thus, to cultivate any form of intensity, creates a kind of tension which departs from comfort, sobriety and clarity. I am continually amused at the lack of consensus this, seemingly common sense view, shares. Until I examine my own past responses to it. I know that I have sought intensity, strife, excitement, and that I have found anything less boring and bland. In conclusion, then, I can only say that I share all points of view, but ultimately side with that of thoughtful consideration and even tempered good will. How many have what it takes to bring these qualities to complete strangers in an impersonal medium? I think the answer is, those who have precisely that kind of relationship to themselves. And, I would add, especially to their own dark side. Because to have a charitable and compassionate relationship to one's dark side, is, precisely, to live in light.
