Guest guest
This is not about a Roman emperor, it's about my ear hearing itself, the sound of one hand clapping, a pure Zen sound. No more silence, constant ringing. With age the tiny hairs in the eardrum, which respond to sound vibrations start leaking electricity into the auditory nerve, and the ear hears itself. A constant cricket's symphony, an endless summer night to fall sleep by. This may sound worse than it is. I don't mind. The brain forgets, doesn't hear it anymore, most of the time. At night, in bed, it seems quite loud, but I listen to it, as if, it were music and fall asleep lolled by its tune. It's the first thing I hear in the morning- my own ear singing to itself. My eye, not to be left behind, has begun to see itself. When I look at the sky I see floaters inside the eye. Some dark, some transparent like bacillus. It seems I am peering through a microscope into a unicellular world. Is it not that the way it's with the " I am " feeling, just another malfunction, of a self seeing itself?
