My son recounted a dream in which he had caught a very large fish.

He was thrilled to see the huge flash of silver below the boat as the

creature struggled to escape the hook.

After a long struggle, a huge head emerged from the deep.

It was a giant alligator.

He became so frightened that he woke up.

He asked me how his brain could set itself up for such a surprise.

What would you tell him?

I'd tell him how surprised I was at both his dream and his

question...and perhaps add that maybe the one super bonus of the

unknowable mystery of all things of life... and living itself, was

the surprising surprise of surprise....and isn't it a wonderful

surprise that we can even dare to 'think' about it at all.it's all

given so freely to all and to 'us'.

Hi Noel....aside from the fact that I don't think I'd give this as

an answer to a child(I am of course assuming that toombaru speaks of

a young child and his dream....if not OK).for fear the child may

begin to either think of themselves as a 'car' or that daddy was

really delusional.....my question is for you, do you own a car that

experiences surprises? I have a couple fairly nice automobiles..and

somewhat high-tech ones they are....but I have yet to have one

indicate to me, in any way, shape, form, or manner, that they have

been or become 'surprised'...or even 'bored', with anything

whatsoever. what brand name is on your vehicle? I'd like to speak

with the manufacturer...if they could only start producing tanks and

warplanes for the military, those things might start backing off a

few directions given them by their commanders when they experience

the surprise of just exactly what it is that they are being asked or

told to do. That would be wonderful!

reminds me of an incident yesterday morning walking/running through

my beloved parkway, the young father was coming up a small hill with

a 3(?) yr old little girl and 5(?) yr old little boy. As I was

walking towards them they had reached the paved path and the little

girl stumbled and fell. Daddy picked her up, brushed off her knees

and said 'i'll fix it when we get back', she was sobbing now.

now, i don't know for sure, but i would have brushed away her booboo

with kisses along with kisses on her face.

might be a motherly thing... i dunno know for sure...

A delicate balance of not over-indulging the severity of minor mishaps

and loving concern......is the male and female symphony of child care.

hmm...tricky age that is...yes

(lucky it was not thirsty eight)

.......

tell your son to love fear like a precious flower...

even if it comes in a dream...

fear is not to be feared...if it is it can enslave you with its

imaginational powers...or at least it can appear to do so

....love thy fear and it will never harm you...
