THE JOURNEY OF THE SOUL TOWARDS GOD

Life is a pilgrimage to the realm of the Divine. The individual

Soul, in its march, enters into the stage called purification (or

purgation) when it is attacked by paroxysms of worldly desires. The

duty of sages and saints is to liberate the soul from such inhibitions

and from the tentacles which entwine it. After suffering for a long

period, the soul reaches the region of enlightenment and tries to be

close to God. After this stage is past, it finally unites with Godhead.

The saint prays to the Lord that he should be made an instrument

in executing the Divine will and that he should always be in the holy

company of His devotees. According to him, God is " Truth personified "

and he who surrenders to this " Truth " will be entitled to Eternity.

Sincere feeling of love, lifting one's hands before God is utter

devotion with tears symbolizing the washing away of the accumulated

sins of the past and submission without any reservation will enable

one to realize God easily. A devotee should feel the presence of God

always, everywhere and in everything. Then evil ideas will totally

disappear.

3. SAI IN DREAMS:

http://www.ettitudemedia.com

These are the dream sequences and messages as received by SaiBaNiSa Ji

From our beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF SHIRIDI. In Anticipation that

this feature will help in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled

from his personal Diary and presented to SAIBANDHUS.

Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY.

27-07-1994

Yesterday, I recollected the incident of my father's death. He died in

Idiki, State of Kerala in India. I was located far away in Hyderabad

at that time. I rushed to idiki, performed the last rights and

returned back. Later, the dissatisfaction that I could not talk to him

before death haunted me. I prayed Baba to show me a way out of this

predicament. Sai has shown me a running visual. A film shooting was

taking place in a village.

The story centered on a Village clerk whose ambition was to become an

officer one day or other. He worked very hard. One day the District

collector visited the village. He advised the employees to repair the

roads and keep them neat and clean when the Minister arrives for

inspection. He also said that he would recommend to the Minister to

promote the clerk to the rank of officer.

The clerk worked overtime in maintaining the roads. He happened to

take a nap during the Minister's visit. The Minister gave a speech and

later started off. The clerk got up with a knee jerk and ran after the

motorcar only to fall down, behind in the dust on the very roads that

he got repaired with untiring efforts putting in. None other than

Girish Karnad, the famous actor from Karnataka State, portrayed the

role of the clerk. In true life too, there exists lot of resemblance

in the lives of my father and Girish Karnad. My father was an accounts

clerk in a company by name H.C.C. He dreamt of becoming an Accounts

officer one day or other, after having served for thirty long years.

He could not withstand the strain of the job and died on 30-07-1974.

SAI finally fulfilled my desire to talk to my father by taking the

role of Girish Karnad in the dream.

It is once again established that Sai does know about the past and

future of HIS devotees.

There is no secrecy before the eyes of Sai.

AUGUST-1994:

08-08-1994

Yesterday, I was thinking about the difference in talking the facts and

Lie telling. I could not conclude. As usual I turned towards my

mentor. I was shown with a visual-

It's all like the difference in telling a wife about the booze habit

of her husband or speaking of good qualities in him. In a heap of

mangoes 90% are sweet, but still it cannot be concluded that all

mangoes are either sweet or tasteless. Therefore `True' and `False'

are two relative terms, sometimes depending upon situations could be

either way. We therefore should have the proper understanding and

follow the right always.

More often truth is bitter and hard to digest.

12-08-1994

I asked Baba to tell me how to progress spiritually.

The essence of the visuals was to conquer the desire for lust, wealth

and fame. Always think of the almighty and light the twin lamps of

Shraddha (faith) and Saburi (patience).

Quest for spiritualism originates from within, is mind conditioned.

4. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY:

(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)

" Shashi " : shashi_31

24. Elucidation of Real Nature (Prakruti)

Everyone's actions depend on his own nature, if our mind is

filled with ego; we think that we are doing all actions ourselves.

Those who are engrossed in the Maya of Nature (Prakruti). They get

tied down to their actions and their 'Chitta' will become slave.

Destroy the bad thoughts that cover up our Jnana, our wisdom and our

Divinity. We must get control over Indriyas and then our Divinity will

reveal itself and shine forth. Indriyas are more powerful than Mind;

and Atma is very much powerful than Buddhi. Kill the thief - i.e.

Desire. In Prakruti there are indriyas with their distorted desires,

then our thoughts, thinking mind, emotions, Ahamkara and so many other

subtle activities present in the nature of the body. There are very

many differences in nature. Pure Atma is changeless and eternal. The

whole Universe is an endless chain of Atma. Sky, Sun, Moon, Stars,

air, sea, day & night, mountains, rivers all these are various

expressions of all lives. The nature is the usual expression of all

lives. The nature enrages the silent powers of man.

Nature is lifeless. From on life-less thing, another thing

will not be produced. To give the results of past actions only, God

can do. For life-less thing this is not possible.

Worship the God and our impurities will be washed off. We

must develop un-selfish attitude and detachment, if we train ourselves

to get attached to God, we will acquire detachment from worldly life.

HELENSBURGH, AUSTRALIA, July 11, 2006: Helensburgh is one of the

famous abodes of Lord Venkateswara in the southern hemisphere and is

located in a picturesque hill about 31 miles South of Sydney,

Australia, according to a short report sent by S. Karthikeyan. It was

started in 1978 by a small group of devotees with a vision to build a

Hindu temple according to Vedic principles. The selected site met all

the required attributes: virgin land, surrounded by forests, located

on an island, a water source close by and adjacent to an ocean. The

temple is now a major pilgrimage center in Australia bustling with

devotees. A significant and popular addition to the temple in recent

times is SVT Vidyalaya, a program which conducts spiritual classes on

the first Sunday of every month. Aimed at imparting overall knowledge

of various aspects of Hindu philosophy, the classes include: chanting

of slokas, bhajans, classical music lessons, and explanation of

spiritual texts. The program also teaches children and youth to

perform pujas at home according to proper rituals. More information on

the temple, called the Tirupathi of the southern hemisphere, can be

found at the URL above.

become a pilgrimage place where Hindu devotees come to practice yoga,

meditate or pray. For two weeks every summer, the Subramanyam Ayyapa

temple attracts thousands of devotees from Montreal, Ottawa and

Toronto and from as far as Western Canada, the United States and

Europe. They're here for the annual kavadi ceremony, the largest Hindu

festival in North America. This year's festivities culminated with an

elaborate parade with 30,000 people expected to participate. Hindus,

many from the Sri Lankan diaspora, come to worship Lord Muruga. For

many devotees, the temple is a place where they can practice just as

they did in Sri Lanka, Mauritius or India.

celebrations for Lord Ganesha that usually attracts over 5,000 people.

Over 20 spiritual missions come together, including the Hindu Council

of Australia. Several stalls, children's activities, outdoor cultural

programs, bhajanas and lots of Indian foods create joyful celebrations

whole day. Inside the temple, several pujas are performed for Lord

Ganesha, who's then taken in procession around the temple, then on a

Temple's annual chariot festival culminated July 22 at the Ontario

temple. The festivities are part of the temple's annual chariot

festival which began July 9. Hundreds of Hindus packed the temple and

its grounds to capacity. Jeya Thiyaga, who works at the temple, said

the festival has grown with the city's booming Tamil population. He

said many of the devotees are Sri Lankan Tamils eager to celebrate the

rituals of their homeland in their new country. Fifteen year-old

Shaumya Vijayakumarakurukkal has come to this festival since she was a

child and she said it's a way for young people like herself to stay

connected with their culture. " A lot of kids don't know much about

their religion or culture, " she said. " They learn by watching this. "

6. SAIBANISA OFFERS PRANAMS TO " LORD SIVA "

Glories of Bhimashankar

In some classics like Shiva Leelamrit, Gurucharitra, Stotraratnakar

etc., BheemaShankara is described as a woman. Gangadhar Pandit,

Ramdas, Sridhar swamy, narahari Malo, Gnaneshwar, and other saints

describe BheemaShankara as JyotirLinga.

Historical figures like Chatrapati Shivaji and Rajaram Maharaj were

known to visit this shrine. This was a favorite place for Peshwa

Balaji Vishwanath and Raghunath, Raghunath Peswa had a well dug up

here. The Diwan of the Peshwar, Nana Phadanvis renovated this temple.

A court hall was built by a Pune trader or Sahukar by the name

Chimanji Antaji Nayik Bhinde in 1437 AD.

The temple of Bhima Shankara is decorated with the Dashavatar statues.

These are very beautiful to look at. The Nandi temple is close to the

main temple. A huge bell is located close to the temple. It has 1721

AD inscribed on it. When this bell is rung, the entire echoes with its

sound.

The worship of BhimaShankar is done, with Rudrabhishek, Panchamrit

snan, everyday. The Lord is praised in rich words. On Mondays as well

as other days, lot of devotees flock here for Darshan. A big fete

(mela) takes place on Maha Shivaratri festival. The natural scenic

beauty of this place is wonderful to look at.

There are many places of tourist interest near BheemShankar temple.

Among these are Mokshakund, Gyankund, Gupta Bhumeshwar, SarvaAteerth,

Papanasini, akhya Teerth, Vyaghrapada Teerth, Sakshi Vinayaka,

Gorakhnath Ashram, Daityasamharini Kamalaja devi's place, Kamalaja

lake, Hanuman lake, etc are worth seeing. The Kokan Kagar or Nagphan

is a very dangerous place located at a height or approximately three

thousand feet, from were the entire Talahati Kokan area can be seen.

It feels like we are being air-borne. It is very difficult to see this

" Kokan kagar " sanding. One has to lie down on the ground, near Kagar

and then only it can be seen. A person who is seeing this in a

prostrate position has to be kept steady by holding his feet firmly.

While watching this is frightening, yet beautiful scene one has to

chant " Jaya Bheema Shankar Jaya Bheema Shankar " .

7. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES:

purnima9

7/18/2006 15:19:07 -0600

Dear Saibandhus,

SaiRam!

I would like to tell about an experience I had and how Baba helped me.

I currently live in Chicago and at the time I was in search of jobs. I

read Sai Satcharitra and before I even completed the book, Baba

bestowed upon me an offer from a company I never even thought of. But

I had to quit the job after a while as the drive was very far off

(nearly 50 miles) and since I was pregnant at the time, my husband

wanted me to quit the job and try for jobs later after the delivery. 5

months after the delivery, when I was back looking for jobs, getting a

job closer to my house was a dream and was something I never even

thought of or hoped that I would get. I was hoping that I at least get

a job in downtown as I could travel in the train as it was better than

driving far off.

I did my Sai Satcharitra parayan again and before I completed the

Satcharitra, Baba bestowed upon me a job from a reputed company which

was a few minutes drive away from my home. I could not have asked for

anything more.

Not only that but I have a elder cousin sister who was adamant and

refused to get married and my aunt was very worried about this

situation. I prayed to my Lord Sai and I have no clue how she agreed

to getting married. She is happily married now and has one son.

How can I thank the almighty Lord, my Baba because not only this but

he has cast his loving looks on me throughout. I just wish that even

in my next birth (irrespective of the form I am); I should be

fortunate enough to touch Baba's feet and pray to him. Every breath we

take is because of the Lord, our Baba.

Om Sri Sainaath Maharaj ki Jai.

8. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA

swamymain

Sun, 30 Jul 2006 21:12:21 -0700 (PDT)

Sai Ram. There was an interruption of this column for two issues

caused by the hospitalization of the body, mind and ego that goes by

the name of Swamy, the instrument that Sai is using to disseminate

knowledge about Himself. Sai Ram. Let us continue with the Isa

Upanishad chapter. Sai Ram.

" One of the main features of the Ishavasya Upanishad is the ethical

advice it offers, and it is interesting to note that the ethics of the

Upanishad are definitely based upon the meta-physical position

advanced in it. The very opening words of the Upanishad tell us that

God pervades every thing. " Sai Ram. God (Isa) pervades everything in

this universe and that aspect is also called Vishnu. If we play with

the letters Isa, we get Sai and Asi (Is). Is it then surprising that

Sai too pervades everything in His Nirguna aspect and yet gives

pleasure to all His devotees by His beautiful countenance at Shirdi

and other holy places? This philosophical aspect is exactly what

science too tells us. All that we see and feel is composed of matter

and that matter is but a transformed state of energy, which pervades

the whole universe. That energy is God's acting principle. Sai Ram.

" As a corollary from this metaphysical position, the ethical advice

it offers is, that a man ought to enjoy whatever God bestows on him in

the firm belief, that as He pervades everything, whatever is bestowed

on him by God must be good. It follows naturally, that the Upanishad

should forbid us from coveting another man's property. In fact, we are

fittingly taught here a lesson of contentment with one's own lot in

the belief that whatever happens, it is divinely ordained and it is

hence good for us. " Sai Ram. This is a little difficult to comprehend

and hence accept at first sight. On one hand, the principle of

universal pervasiveness and that all that exists is pervaded by God

and hence is God is juxtaposed with the principle of individual duty.

If everything is pervaded by God, the idea of coveting another man's

property is also pervaded by God! And when everything is pervaded by

God, who is separate from whom? And if everything is divinely

ordained, where is the individual freedom of action?

By His grace, we will attempt to bridge the gap between the individual

and the Universal in the coming issues. Sai Ram.

9. SAI WITH CHILDREN:

http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg

Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with

children and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting

Saidarbar should be entertained with good stories. For the last 2

years I have told you about Lord Krishna's Leelas and Lord Rama Story.

Now I want to tell the stories what heard in my child hood.

THE BLUE JACKAL

A hungry jackal came out of the forest in search of food. He saw a

village nearby and decided to do some scavenging there but as he

reached the periphery, he was spotted by a pack of dogs. The dogs ran

to catch it and seeing the danger, the jackal dashed towards the

forest. Suddenly it froze; there was great danger in that direction

too as he saw a pair of wolves bounding towards him.

He turned somersault and again made a dash towards the village. He was

face to face with death on both sides, so he jumped into a small

stream and crossed over like lightening. He ran on in the dark night,

stumbling over unknown obstacles until he finally fell into a huge vat

of blue dye.

With barely his nostrils above the liquid to breathe, he hid in the

vat the whole night until the dogs, unable to find him, gave up the

chase and went away. Shivering from fright and damp, he crawled out

and lay exhausted near a bonfire to dry and warm. He lay there until

dawn when in the early morning light, he noticed his color. His whole

body had been colored a bright blue and he looked exotic, as if from

another world.

Being a very clever animal, he decided to exploit this change and went

back to the jungle. He strutted before the other jackals and with a

spiritual look said " I had gone to the Temple of 'VanDevi'. She was

pleased with my devotion and blessed me. To distinguish me from your

commoners, she turned me blue. " The other jackals looked and listened

in awe. They bowed their heads and pronounced him king. Hailing his

majesty and following him in a procession, they informed the other

animals in the forest of this great transformation.

All the animals gathered together and decided that this creature be

crowned king of the forest. Thus in the span of few hours, the jackal

became " Master of the Jungle " with the tiger, bear and others becoming

his courtiers and bodyguard. This elevation brought a sudden change in

his attitude too. He started treating the other jackals with disdain

making them very unhappy and miserable. After a few days of this mal

treatment at the hand of one of their own kind, they planned to take

revenge by exposing him.

An old one advised " It is a natural trait in us whenever some of us

start howling, all the others join in this call. We shall do this

tonight all of a sudden, when he sleeps. When he hears us, it will be

but natural for him to join in the howl without thinking. This will

reveal his identity to others. " They acted according to plan and at

midnight, when the blue jackal slept soundly, they started howling. As

the sound reached a crescendo, the blue jackal woke with a start and

without a second thought joined in the howl, thus exposing him self.

The tiger which lay nearby was very angry at being duped by a mere

jackal and made to serve him. He pounced on him and tore him apart.

Thus the jackal paid for this trickery with his life.

Lesson: 'Fraud and Forgery ends ultimately in penalty.'

10. ARTICLES FROM SAI DEVOTEES:

" Sankaraiah Dubagunta " sainama

SAI LIVES (Continued Presence of Sai)

Thiru V.A.Rampremal is a critic and a theoretician of Tamil New poetry

and a pioneer poet in the same movement. He had darshan of several

living Saints and read biographies of Saints who had discarded their

physical bodies. We met during non-stop Sainama Sankeerthana in Shenoy

nagar Sai Mandir, Chennai. Somehow we became good Sai friends. I

requested him to send me an article on " Continued presence of Sai " .

Important points from his article to the extent possible are

reproduced in his own words so that readers can enjoy the mysterious

ways of Sainath.

It was during the year 1963 Mr.Premal visited Sadhu Appadurai's farm

house at Trincomalai (Ceylon) with an agitated mind at the instance of

Saint Yogarswamy of Jaffna. The conversation that took place between

Sadhu Appadurai and Premal was published in tamil in a book form

titled " DHYANADHARA " . There he saw Baba's photo. " It was the picture

of an old man seated upon a stone with the right leg upon the left

leg. He adds " This one depicted the old man surrounded by all male

pride lions " . The old man in the picture was Sai Baba. The lions that

surround Him symbolized His power-wild and regal free and fierce. Like

this the seed of Sai Devotion was sown in me by Saint Appadurai. " He

met fifteen Sadhus before Sainath took over him. These Sadhus pushed

him towards Sai without recommending His name. " Had I known earlier I

would have resisted. "

Mr. Premal met Sri Jiddu Krishnamurthy and also Yogi Ramsuratkumar.

Once when he was with Sri Ramasuratkumar (now at Tiruvannamalai,

encourages SriRam Jayaram, Jaya Jaya Ram " nama sankeerthana) in the

year 1979 a cup of milk spilled on the cemented floor of Yogi's Asram

from Mr.Premal's hand. Yogi asked premal to drink milk available in

the cup. The pet dog " Sai " licked up the spilled milk. Yogi remarked

" Ah, at last Sai Baba has taken it. " Premal felt what he had to do

with SaiBaba. Like this he heard Sai's name through Yogi Rama Surat

kumar. He met Saint Bheda in the year 1991. He heard Bheda singing in

Urdu with the refrain " Sai Ram Sai Ram " . Thus " Sai " was after premal

in some way or other.

Once premal suffered from severe jaundice. He saw in a dream his dead

body. He felt his reading; contact with Saints had not been of any

help. He resolved to wait for death! Wonder of wonders! He started

recouping his health from that movement onwards. One day Mr. premal

attended a marriage in a KalyanaMantapam near Mylapore SaiBaba Mandir.

" There a Jewish gentleman met and remarked. " There is no tension in

your streets. What is the secret? " As a reply Premal wanted to present

a book and walked into new century Book house. To his surprise he

found a book " Sai Baba the Master " which he bought and presented to

the Jewish man. Premal feels that he found Sai in this book as an

Awakener, Awakener of the heart. " It is to reach the heart, He pierces

the intellect the weapon Sai Baba uses for such piercing of the

intellect is His miraculous powers. For intellectual miracles are

humbugs. In any case, my intellect reeled as though under a shower of

mythical and godly missiles when I read Sai's love-laden miracles. For

His miracles belong not to barren showmanship but are arrows coated

with amruth. They kill self assurances while awakening the hearts. "

On 2-02-1992 he found the entire atmosphere in All India Sai Samaj,

Mylapore was vibrant. He visited shenoy nagar Sai Mandir. It was here

Sai took over him entirely. Premal used to visit temples for their

architectural beauty. In shenoynagar (Chennai) Sai Mandir in Swami

Kesevaiahji's photo he saw one of the lions seen 25 years ago in

Ceylon in Sai Baba photo. The lion was humility itself. Ram who had

not prostrated to any men or statue earlier now fell full length

before Sai. " Something snapped in me and made me shake with nobs with

no sorrow or shame. I shed tears " .During this period two instances of

Sai's continued presence took place. One was the result of an

experiment he made while going to sleep. He placed a sticker with

Sai's photo on his chest. He saw Sai going around in pure white dress

with folded hands as if he were a temple. As this act was observed

during his sleep Mr. premal confirmed it was not on account of any

mental activity. " Sai was teaching me absolute humility while

revealing to me His presence as a humble image beyond my imagination.

He was teaching in the same way as a swimming teacher teaches swimming

by actually swimming. A true guru teaches humility by being humble, a

state of affairs not to be found in the modern guru-disciple

relationship. " The second instance took place when he had liver

failure (Typhoid fever with a damaged liver) forced him to use drugs.

He had a dream in which he saw a dark deathly mass. He observed Sai

was beating the dark mass with a stick as if fighting for his own

life. He woke up with the realization that the black mass was his

liver. It appears that Sai while beating the mass was showing " Live!

Live! Live! " Later he recouped his health. Readers may observe how

Sainath Maharaj influenced Mr. Ram premal slowly and finally took over

him. Thus Baba's words " Let his man (devotee) be at any distance, a

thousand kms. away from him, he will be drawn to Shirdi like a sparrow

with a thread tied to its feet, " have become true. Another truth that

is revealed to us is that Sai is present every where Saints Asrams in

a far off like Ceylon also. At my suggestion premal visited Shirdi and

had detailed discussion with H.H.Sivanesan Swamiji.
