Guest guest
The question of 'self ignorance' [taking yourself to be the 'limited' bodymind self] becomes of critical importance here. Why does this 'self-ignorance' rise and why is it so pervasive? As far as we know every human gets to have this 'self ignorance'. Therefore, we have to conclude that it is by 'design' and not due to anomaly or defect. IOW... this is the way God wanted it! It is by God's will and design that we humans develop this 'self ignorance'! In yet, another words... perhaps, this 'self ignorance' is the very part of the " nature " and we are 'wired' to develop, think, act and behave this way by the " evolution " ! If above is true [as it appears to be by observing myself and other " humans " ]... the effort to 'forget' this 'self ignorance' in a way, becomes a movement against the 'evolutionary' 'hard-wiring' of " human " and thus chances of a 'permanent' success in this endeavor is quite less! When the effort of conscious human mind gets into conflict with the hard-wired impulses designed by " nature " - 'hard wiring' is far more likely to win! And, we already see the evidence of the 'win' of 'hard wired' 'self ignorance' impulse in our life as well as in the lives of many " teachers " and 'jnanis' who though, according to themselves [and many others] are 'enlightened' - much of their behavior still seems driven by the same 'limited self'! To look inward (spiritually), Is to explore that which is Within one's frame, Like a picture. It is not like looking outward To get " more " knowledge, power, fame, matter. Within the picture of the self, There is higher and lower, Foreground, background, One cannot exist without the other. Thus, too, Self knowledge and Self ignorance are merely Mutually inclusive Spiritually. It is a very common mistake, To confuse the laws of nature, Those of the material world, With those of the spirit, Those of the inner world. The two sets of laws Are entirely different. Only a unified theory Can reconcile them (One too lengthy for this context) But to confuse or even Assume the identicality, Of the inner and the outer, Is a common, All too common, Mistake. Common but deadly. Most deadly. (Yes, Brahman IS Atman: But ONLY Within)
