I don't know if other 'ancient'*** cultures hasn't lived under " master-slave mentality " for millennia. > Think about it: now wouldn't it make sense to encourage the lower and middle castes to be more passive and submissive, to be satisfied with their lot? As far as I have read the Highest Caste Brahmins were asked to adhere to 'stavic' vegetarian diets and lowest caste of shudras were given permission to eat 'hot' and 'high energy producing' meat. Is your information different? [...] --- ***I read in Donald Trump's book that India is the Oldest 'continuous' civilization in the world. I have great respect for USA, Europe and western civilization. In my opinion, it has totally revolutionized the world after industrial revolution. Whereas decline of India in the same period has been quite Drastic and shocking. Last 400 years have been indeed heavily dominated by western civilization. It has changed touched and changed pretty much everything. I agree with Tolle that today almost entire world including much of east and India is predominantly just one civilization - western civilization. If British Occupation of 300 years took India from being the richest country in the world to being one of the poorest - IMO... India also owes its recent economic resurgence largely to USA and global trade. I also have Great Respect for history of India and for its modern Greats like Gandhi! I consider as the BEST man of the last century. I also have great respect for the tolerance and generosity of India and Hinduism. Today, Prime minister of India is from a minority and president of India is from yet another minority! I consider it quite remarkable for a democratic country! Before coming to USA, image of USA in my mind was as one of the most Open, Progressive, 'equal rights', 'non prejudiced', 'equal opportunity' country... IN that light, I found it Very SHOCKING that in 200 years of history USA has NEVER chosen a non-male, non-Christian, non-white president! I was shocked to hear that Joe Liberman was the first Jewish American to even be nominated for VC by a major political party! Being quite unaware of American History, I was also quite shocked to learn that in the country that I considered most " civilized " and " progressive " and bacon of 'equal rights' - women didn't have right to vote until quite recently, humans (slaves) were traded freely and blacks were legally discriminated against. All this came as a rude SHOCK to me because I had extremely benevolent and pleasant image of America and was quite unaware of its history! In modern times too, I found atom bombs on Japan and war in Iraq quite shocking and not matching with my Greatly Positive image of USA. All I mean is that in India, the system has remained culturally continuous in a rather more obvious way than, say in US. As far as I have read > the Highest Caste Brahmins were asked to adhere > to 'stavic' vegetarian diets and lowest caste > of shudras were given permission to eat 'hot' and > 'high energy producing' meat. > > Is your information different? * Well, I guess I'm thinking of the Highest Caste Brahmin as more middle class or priestly class. And I'm thinking of the warrior and aristocratic class as the highest. In this country open aggression is kept in check among the middle classes, but more or less laissez faire for the upper and lower, in one sense or another. But if you're caught committing a crime, the consequences are completely different, for the two classes. Guess this whole thing is a lot more complex than it would appear to be. What isn't? More of my mind to follow, below, if you haven't had enough of it, yet.* -- In Nisargadatta , " adithya_comming " <adithya_comming wrote: > > [...] > > > Remember, a lot of misinformation is > a justification of the master-slave mentality, > under which India, with its caste system, has > lived for millennia. > > > I don't know if India has lived under > " master-slave mentality " for millennia. > > I don't know if other 'ancient'*** cultures > hasn't lived under " master-slave mentality " > for millennia. > > > > Think about it: now wouldn't it make sense to > encourage the lower and middle castes to be more > passive and submissive, to be satisfied with their lot? > > As far as I have read > the Highest Caste Brahmins were asked to adhere > to 'stavic' vegetarian diets and lowest caste > of shudras were given permission to eat 'hot' and > 'high energy producing' meat. > > Is your information different? > > > > [...] > > > --- > > ***I read in Donald Trump's book that > India is the Oldest 'continuous' > civilization in the world. > > > I have great respect for USA, Europe > and western civilization. America, for example, was built almost entirely on the back of slave labor. > > > I agree with Tolle that today almost entire > world including much of east and India is > predominantly just one civilization - western > civilization. > > If British Occupation of 300 years took > India from being the richest country in > the world to being one of the poorest - > IMO... I consider as the BEST man of the > last century. * Please don't be offended by this, but I see lionizing men as infantile. In my opinion, unless we see all men as basically " equal, " we're like children. Interestingly, I heard that Gandhi himself said that his form of protest could never have worked if, for example, India had been occupied by Germans. Also, what of the genocide that came as a direct result of Gandhi's " success " ? > I also have great respect for the tolerance and > generosity of India and Hinduism. Today, Prime > minister of India is from a minority and president > of India is from yet another minority! I consider > it quite remarkable for a democratic country! * Not to be too condescending, but do you still think there's such a thing as " democracy " ? Haven't you heard that in America we don't really have fair elections? Google " black box voting. But under the surface, all countries are the same. > > I was shocked to hear that Joe Liberman was the > first Jewish American to even be nominated for > VC by a major political party! * And that's only because the Israeli/Jewish lobby has so much power, now a days. > > Being quite unaware of American History, I was > also quite shocked to learn that in the country that > I considered most " civilized " and " progressive " > and bacon of 'equal rights' - women didn't have > right to vote until quite recently, humans (slaves) > were traded freely and blacks were legally discriminated > against. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_People's_History_of_the_United_States The American Empire has been kept afloat by just as much pillage and plunder as all empires before it. The Roman Empire was not the exception, it was the rule. The Law, actually. > > In modern times too, I found atom bombs on Japan > and war in Iraq quite shocking and not matching with > my Greatly Positive image of USA. * I don't mean to be harsh, but " there's a sucker born every minute. " Now a days it's more like every second. As long as you put anyone or anything on a pedestal, you'll never be alone. Even as your Titanic sinks.
