USA is probably has the highest percetange of overweight people and most of these overweight people are not vegetarian. In India, generally, overweight is only found in upper middle class and most of them are in fact... non-vegetarian. There is also a high percentage of overweight people in trader community who are mostly vegetarian. But, tradionally they eat lot and lots of fat and sugar. Guest guest
Overweight Americans do eat meat, but mostly starches. It's these latter that do it. Insulin is the cause of fat. As for the thinness of most Indians, I don't think this is as much out of choice as it is out of poverty, irrespective of meat or no meat. Americans do have a tradition of overindulgence in everything. Like the Romans. The French have less of a weight problem because, though they eat it all, they eat less. Probably for economical reasons. Their culture has had to endure more austerity than the American. Or, maybe the French are just more sophisticated. Or maybe God knows why. - In Nisargadatta , " adithya_comming " <adithya_comming wrote: > > Nisargadatta , " skywhilds " <skywords@> wrote: > > > > > > > > By dietary traditions, I'm referring to > > > > > > > http://www.sanatansociety.org/ayurveda_home_remedies/ayurveda_three_gunas.htm > > > > Most of the vegetarians I've met seem to be having some health > > problem. There is some truth in it. Interstingly, as far I can see most overweight Americans belong belong to poor or lower middle class. > > > Americans do have a tradition of overindulgence in everything. Only three unfit and relatively fat Chinese people that I have worked with have all blamed it on their 'adopting' American diet. Most other Chinese people that I have worked with have adhered to Chinese deit and have remained thin, fit and energetic. Certaily in India as well as I think perhasp in USA too, obessity is more common among women than in men. Some blame it on " evolution " and body's tendecy to gather fat for later use [thinking that there might be starvation]!
