Guest guest
Zen is about forgeting mathematics: neither try to add to, subtract from, nor divide this present moment. Never think that it is equal or greater than the past, nor see it as lesser than the future. Do not equate this moment to zero, nor to one. Let it stand as it is, incalculable in its uniqueness. He speaks of a prospective relationship to the moment: That of Authentically Honoring the Isness of what Is. (Nevertheless.) It is ALSO my experience that the moment can be so full, resplendent and fertile, that it Wishes to be qualified, permuted, revered and distilled for future use. Similarly, the moment can be so odious, dark and toxic, that it wishes its future to be diluted, diverted and precluded, if at all possible. Thus, for me, this moment, pregnant with infinite possibility, admits BOTH of its absolute indivisibility, irreducibility, immutability ( " Zen is about forgetting mathematics: neither try to add to, subtract from, nor divide this present moment. " ) AND of its complete amenability to any and all forms of creative reconstruction and deconstruction. What, then, are we left with, if both my, and Pete's, statements are equally true? AWARENESS OF AWARENESS (?) I'd have to say, yes. Because this is the one thing without which neither honoring Isness, nor transforming It, are possible, in the first place! Only with this is it possible to go to the root of being, the beginning of beginning. In Awareness of Awareness, one is already One: Nondual. Since only in Awareness of Awareness does one revere both the Inclusive AND the Exclusive, thus insuring that there is neither opposition, NOR opposition TO opposition. It admits of any and all seeming separation without, at the same time, acceding to any ultimate separation. It is precisely in Awareness of Awareness, that authentic futures are made possible. Conversely, it is precisely in the (dishonoring) UNawareness (or denial of full awareness), that authentic futures are made IMpossible. For no will, no force, no demand, no reward no punishment can impregnate the future with authenticity, if it also plants the seeds of its own destruction by abnegating or neglecting any aspect of itself. For by such denial, it is also planting the seeds of that very inauthenticity. In contrast, Awareness of Awareness abnegates nothing, honors and embraces all aspects of Itself. All of its seeds have been revered, INcluding those of doubt and denial. What resists, persists, but what assists coexists: transforms. Evolves. Blossoms. Nevertheless, it might also be said that Pete's and my statements are actually one and the same, from the start. Because the very act of truly honoring the present moment, in all of its diversity, is also the moment of sublation, of inclusion, of embracing all Its aspects, both positive and negative. Such an instant leaves the moment both pristine and fertile as it shines forth in its own glazen purity. Impregnated with its own chastity, it is infinitely free to Be unfettered Becoming.
