Guest guest
To me, service is the natural result of moving beyond the need to avoid [self] pain and seeking [self] pleasure. It doesn't have to mean the absence of pain or abundance of pleasure. A mere whole-hearted acceptance of them can be enough. One might notice and acknowledge the presence of pain [or pleasure] as well as the instinct to run away [or stick to] yet, might choose to act in 'accordance to love' [service] irrespective of what doing so means in terms of [self] pain and [self] pleasure. It can begin with the Full Acceptance of the Reality as it is and noting that one is NO different that this Reality itself! It begins with the realization that there is nothing in this world that can really " add " anything to 'me' and nothing that can really take anything away either. Ones choice then is simply to 'play its part' ['service'] in the game of creation, evolution, the world… the leela. Everyone does it anyway either consciously or unconsciously. With 'conscious' participation even [personal] pain and [personal] pleasure is seen in a bigger context and is seen how it 'serves' a greatly essential purpose in the unfolding of this leela. One then becomes a 'willing participant' rather than imagining oneself to be the 'victim'. The realization dawns that it is MY game [i and Reality being One here] and it begins and ends with Me [me being not different than the Reality]. Guest guest
On 'personal' level, service also begins with the 'understanding' that it is the nature/universe that really decides when and how one [body] takes birth. It is the nature/universe that in reality, decides how one [body] ends, lives and what it does while it is alive! Every 'body' is destined [and 'designed'] to live that way. With realization of it and with the 'gratitude' of what the nature/universe has ALREADY given one [without needing any contribution from the one who has come to 'live' it], one can become a willing participant of the universe [and KNOWING that it is for the 'universe' and not for one 'self'], one can become one with the Creative Power of the Universe! And, one realizes that One IS the Creative Power of the Universe! [because, in reality, there is nothing else!] To me, only after one is ready to willingly suffer, only after one is ready to willingly let go of the desire of pleasure/happiness/bliss… that the journey of real spirituality begins! It begins with the realization that, I don't need anything and that… I Can NOT really get anything! Once that point is reached, 'persona' pain and pleasures are no longer significant neither is the [concept of] 'personal' enlightenment, liberation, freedom, liberation! All that is deemed unnecessary cause, one acks nothing… and, one can 'gain' nothing! Universe is for the universe Alone! One is just grateful to be a conscious willing participant of this Glorious Unfolding Creation!

When we try to make it all about *me* [the entity which in reality, Owes its birth, death as well continued existence to the universe alone] - we DO* often find ourselves trapped in nightmares! ---- * and, we " should " - for the sake of our own 'eventual' understanding

So, just Being, or just being love, would be part of it, no? Sure, it will. It could be one of the BEST service possible.
