Guest guest
>>Are you absolutely sure you decide where thoughts come from? Thoughts come from what we read, what we see, what we hear, from the feeling of thirst, hunger, libido, sexual attraction, fear, from what we feel of our surroundings, what we experience from other sense… and, most of the times they simply come from the Past Memory! [ Have you ever had a thought which doesn't have Its [direct or indirect] " root " in one of these? ] When you remain attentive and aware; you get to choose which thought [from many possibilities] - when you are am not attentive 'unconscious' mind takes the easiest path possible which usually means paying as little attention to the present as possible and trying interpret and 'respond' to the present based on experiences in the past. This is what is called acting your 'conditioning', acting your 'karma' - and. This is why beginning of Conscious Attention means 'End of Karma'! >>Katie describes thoughts as raindrops... they just show up. Raindrops too have a source in water, heat, air and gravity! They don't just show up! >>If they cause us stress, we can investigate them. Stress is just another " thought " about a " thought " ! Like other 'unconscious' thought stress too comes because of lack of Awareness! It is the result of the 'unconscious mind' trying to " repeat " the same thing that it has done in past in these situations! It happens because of our Absence! It happens because we are NOT present to Consciously SEE, Think and Act in Present! >>Or not. It seems to me as if the mind were an amazing waystation rather than a creator of anything. I see it other way around: Ultimately, mind is the creator of everything that we feel experience and think! >>Most of the best discoveries, the most creative works of art, happen in a " no mind " state... and that state can't be manufactured! I know that is an extremely " popular " thing to say in the " spiritual " circuit! But, have you ever wondered why those " discoveries " have almost always occurred only to those who were 'expert' in their respective fields??? Why scientific discoveries have occurred to folks like Einstein and musical discoveries have occurred to folks like Mozart? >>Those who describe this state often say it is something that " just happens. " It is just like vapor - after heating water; vapor 'just happens'! We just heat the water; we don't have to 'make' the vapor! No " new " thought can come by 'thinking through memory' and, all our 'linear thinking' is 'thinking through memory'! Yes, Silence does open a " portal " through which fresh, new thoughts appear! But, Silence is not same as 'unconscious thinking' - if anything, it is exact opposite of it! >>Any kind of " control " we think we have over anything (thoughts included) seems very temporary. It is not about " control " ! It is about being Available [Conscious, Aware and Attentive] to the Moment and Acting with Awareness! It simply means being Awake to the Present and not act as if in 'half sleep'! Consciousness is only responsibility - not " control " ! >>I like how Ramana Maharshi describes this: >> " Investigate the nature of the mind and it will disappear. Yes, because it is the " mind " which is doing the 'investigation'! And, there is only one mind - not two! The mind can not 'investigate' and find itself at the same time - The mind that it is trying to find is the very mind that is engaged in Investigation! >>Because of the emergence of thought, you surmise that it has an origin and call that the mind. Yes, we need a basis for all " surmisation " ; like the presence of rain-drop means presence of " cloud " - yet, clouds are nothing more than condensed Water-drops themselves! But, overall, I don't find this 'argument' useful in the context of this discussion! We 'can' think , we are able to 'not think' and we are able to choose 'what to think' - that should be enough here! We can investigate the nature and origin of mind some other time! >>When you inquire to see what it is, you find there is really no such thing as mind. >>When the mind has thus vanished, you realize eternal peace. " Yes, because you need 'active mind' [thinking] in order to experience " time " ! No time = Eternity! No 'feeling of time' = 'feeling of eternity'!
