Guest guest
> Stress is an outcome of attaching to a stressful story, right? > > So what is depression? Stress is judging Present Moment to be bad and internally 'struggling' to change it without having a clear way to do so. i.e. it is struggle against the Present in which " way out " is still not clearly understood. While depression is stress plus helplessness! Depression = stress + helplessness I.e. Depression is not liking the Present [What Is] and not having any " hope " to get out of it! 'Premature' 'surrender' can make one stressed. 'Misunderstood' 'surrender' can make one depressed. 'Misunderstanding' of *work* can make one depressed. Misusing work as 'resignation' can make one depressed. Simply 'Stopping to fight' without Accepting/Liking/Loving What Is... can make one depressed! I will not be surprised if there are many depressed folks in " spiritual " community! I will not be suprised if many folks have become more depressed after learning spirituality! True spirituality doesn't mean 'giving up' [the effort to change]! It means Clarity! It means to think Clearly! It means to act with Awareness - decide what you want to do [including your effort to change something] meanwhile internally accept the Reality of the Present Moment... And, Accept the Reality of you wanting to change it, And, the Reality of you having decided to change it, And, the Reality of you making efforts to change! The Present manifested Reality, your inner desire and your present 'resolve' to make effort to change it and your action to change it - All are part of *What___Is*! Accept All of What__IS - Accept it in its *TOTALITY*! If you accept only part of it - depression can easily result! Many folks misuse *work* to only accept the present reality and forget to accept their genuine inner desire and 'effort' for change! I am not surprised if depression results many times in such a case!

Does it not deserve to be " accepted " like everything else? Is it not rather the idea that we have to be all the time: - happy - strong - responsible - in " control " - etc... that can make people sick? >Many folks misuse *work* to only accept the present reality >and forget to accept their genuine inner desire and 'effort' >for change! I am not surprised if depression results many times >in such a case! But the desire for change is also part of the present reality! How could it be felt or realized if it were not? How could it manifest if it were not? Please, let me share some more thoughts about depression. Seriously depressed people most of the time do not know " why " they are depressed. It may be a natural reaction to unpleasant experiences, but also a hormonal dysfunction or a genetic predisposition. IMO, the stress comes, because society tells them that it is not o.k. to be depressed and that one has to be happy in order to be called " sane " . To feel depressed has become a taboo in many societies. But depression is just as human as happiness. Often it is part of a natural healing process. It can be a device to look deeper into life. To become more sincere and compassionate. There is more for us than only " happiness " and " fun " . Everything is contained in this present moment! To accept the present moment also means: to accept depression, anger, fear, sadness. The transformation comes through understanding. Not through control, interference and manipulation. I would call it " misuse " , if someone tries to force his ideas - how people ideally have to be - on others. Greetings Stefan

Guest guest
>> I suffer from depression and I take anti-depressants to help me cope with them. I did work, taught by Byron Katie for many years but, my depression my persisted. I started taking pills and my condition has greatly improved. I am not employed and for the most part, my life is limited to sleeping, eating, watching TV, talking to friends and Internet surfing and chatting. >> I recently met someone who suffers from same kind of depression and has continued to suffer in-spite of doing work for 1-2 years. I advised he to take anti-depressants. However, according to her, Katie advises against taking anti-depressant and encourages people to get better by doing " work " and not be dependent on drugs. If taking these pills is helping you, and if they don't have harmful side-effects, then, take them. Also, also, see if you can have lot of regular loving sex! Do plenty of regular physical exercise - get out, jog, run, swim. Do some work that you believe in, the work, that you think is the right thing to do, work that you feel good about. Maybe, help someone, volunteer for some social work that you believe in, work in a good shop, a lovely restaurant, teach a kid - do something that you feel good about. I think all of them are linked with physical and mental well-being and they affect each other. To be really well, we have to serve our body, our mind, our family, society, our sexuality, love, creativity as well as our spirit. Just serving one side, such as our mind or soul, is not going to be enough for our total well being. It is my experience that if you just keep sitting in your armchair, sofa or lying in your bed, you can't have any long lasting well-being - no matter, how much of " work " you do and no matter how 'enlightened' you think you are! It is my guess that Katie's own excellent mental well-being is as much a result of her doing the work, as it is because of her Very Active Life Style and because of her being Fully Engaged in what she genuinely believes in - i.e. in helping others, in teaching " work " to people. Best, ac
Guest guest
It is my experience that, to really feel better in any sustainable way: - You must do what you TRULY believe is the RIGHT thing to do. - You must know that you are doing That, which you believe is the Right thing to do. As long as you feel guilty at any level, you can't be at peace. Being so overly concerned about just ourselves and only about our own personal pleasure - so many of us live a constant life of 'guilt'. In this 'guilt' mode, we try to do things simply because we think it is good for us, many times, we do so in spite of knowing that what we are doing is not really the RIGHT thing to do. And, that 'guilt' blocks our Peace!

I have seen it do wonders to the mental and physical well-being of so many women and I have seen so many women start getting terribly depressed when they lacked regular loving sex. I think it is a terrible mistake for a woman to attach many stupid conditions to having good, safe loving sex and thus, act to deprive herself of a great mental and physical tonic! In my experience, apart from everything else, good loving sex heals and nurtures women! Have the conditions, criteria, guidelines that you feel are necessary and useful - but, don't let them block you from having good sex! Because, having safe loving sex is wonderful for you - it is the BEST anti-depressant there is! Further, I think it is a mistake to 'keep waiting' to 'feel good' before you can have good loving sex; have good loving sex - and, you will feel good!
