But, this is a 'managed stress' and it is stress which is distributed over a period of time opposite to other kind of stress which occurs when I am late or very close to being late. In this second mode, my stress has 'peaks'! In this mode, for a period of time, I am stress free and am coolly taking long showers, day- dreaming, sleeping, watching TV, sipping my cup of tea, getting dressed ever slowly (and admiring my body ) and then, suddenly I realize I am getting late and... my stress PEAKS! There is also another way. In this way, I " choose " to pick 'discipline', 'focus', 'clear thinking', 'responsibility', 'duty' over " day dreaming " , " idle thinking " , " long showers " and being " being stress- free " ! I say, I am fully willing to embrace stress, tension; pain in order to do what I believe is the RIGHT thing to do! I say I am willing to gladly sacrifice my personal pleasure, my 'freedom from stress' in order to do what I 'consciously' KNOW is the right thing to do! In this way, I have no inner struggle because I know I have willingly " chosen " to do exactly what I am doing and to experience exactly what I am experiencing! Inner struggle comes only when I think I am a 'victim'! It comes and stays only as long as I believe that there is something I am being " forced " to do against my will. Once I become a 'conscious' willing participant in doing what I am doing, in experiencing [and understanding] what I am experiencing; the 'victim- hood' goes away and so does the inner struggle! Regards, ac ---- PS1: Someone whom I greatly admire also had an issue with being late for a long time but, then, he changed and built a reputation for being punctual and on time. He said, he had discovered that he was frequently getting late because he was always trying to be " on time " ! He gave up that habit and started trying to be 'early' by at least fifteen minutes wherever he was supposed to be! And, that transformed him from being late to being on time and it also meant that he had less stress while driving! In my experience, stress comes only when: - I believe I need to do something. And, I also believe that: - I am not fully prepared to do it! i.e. stress comes only when I suspect I am not prepared to do what I believe I " need " to do! If I drop that " need... stress goes away! Or, if I 'consciously' prepare in advance and KNOW that I am prepared; then, too stress goes away! Stress is simply a 'reminder' a 'time clock' that's all it 'ticks' only as long as I believe I need it! When I know I am TRULY prepared to do what I think I " need " to do, it stops ticking! PS2: It is my experience that pretty much none of us are born with these skills [like how to cope with traffic ]! But, some of us are lucky to have parents who are good 'examples' and aprents who are skilled and patient to 'drill' some good 'habits' in us! But, in all other aspects, we are still let to 'learn' and 'master' it on our own… and, still fail from time to time! Which is fine, because, if nothing else, our 'failure' at least can teach us to be 'tolerant', 'understanding' and 'compassionate' towards other's failures! It is also my experience that our tendency to 'avoid stress' is among the BIGGEST block on the way of learning! Way of 'learning' often passes through 'stress' and 'resistance' and only by saying YES to it, only by being open to willingly embrace and endure it we become TRULU ready to 'learn'! As long as we remain afraid of 'stress'... we remain 'stuck'!
