Guest guest
To understand if people [and I] seem to enact same kind of behavior again and again in spite of it seeming irrational, illogical or counter- productive on the surface. The real reason and the real " pay off " is taking place 'within' - it is producing the hormones that the body has become " addicted " to. To understand that just like a drug addiction ; getting rid of it is quite hard. It it requires strong will and significant sustained effort and that extremely few people can do it alone. That early childhood, early schooling and parenting defines [set pattern for] our later behavior even more than what I had thought before. To understand that to not try to change a behavior even when it seems irrational on surface or try to change and to fail again and again to do so - are both natural and expected - it is just like trying to fight a deeply ingrained addiction. And, that the sacrifice/surrender of instant gratification and pleasure and full willingness to accept pain and hardship might be only way out of it - the in built hormone can and will " punish " any effort to change a long-standing pattern. However, once a old behavior pattern is totally replaced with a new behavior pattern - the same in built mechanism will now start rewarding and protecting this new pattern and will insure that it lasts for long time. So what seems like a foe when trying to change an existing pattern; acts like a great friend to protect the new one we have learned.
