On this bright sunny morning while driving through the town I live in--

some 160000 souls strong--I looked at the houses and the churches and

the industrial parks and the huge multi-story banks and the cinemas

where you can see any one of 14 movies on any given day and suddenly I

was seized by a moment of insight and threw open the window (actually

I rolled the window down but in my heart I threw it open) and cried:

O, Town, in the name of my King, THE TRUTH, I hereby rename Thee,

POTEMKINVILLE.

the substance of the insight I had--or seemed to have--that brought

me to the pitch of such a renaming?

Like Bill......I enjoy the freshness of your insights.

Thanks

Potemkin--you may know this--was the prime minister of Catherine the

Great. He was probably embezzling on a grand scale and so in order

to justify the big withdrawals from the public purse he told

Catherine that he was building cities in the Caucasus.Catherine

decided to take a trip down to see the wonders he had worked. He

stayed one step ahead of her by having crews of workmen construct

elaborate town shaped facades--like propped up cardboard cutouts--

just far enough back from the railroad tracks so that when

Catherine rode by she would see these facades and think they were

real 3 dimentional structures. She saw them and was pleased. This

morning it occurred to me that I had been playing the Catherine for

many years driving past houses and buildings and so on thinking that

within them was going on living and industry and commerce and

whatnot and lo! nothing of the sort! All that stuff going on behind

those facades was pure imagination all along!Just like the ego

thought which is another Potemkinville.

gee that's precious.

the need and enjoyment of 'insights' and 'freshness' was cool...

before that stuff wasn't needed anymore.

explanations really wont help though.

but that's for 'you guys' to find out..

after you're not kidding 'yourselves' anymore...

and just quit goofing around and end that crap.

...the insights, the freshness, the enjoyment, and that 'selves' thing.

'i' really can't talk about 'it' and besides..

'you' can never understand.
