What is an 'addiction'?

Looks like I have never really understood

'addiction' and that has caused a lot

of confusion and problem.

If I liked pineapple a lot and had it

frequently - it would not be " labeled "

an addiction. But, if I had lot of sex,

coffee, cigarette or coke... that would

be called an 'addiction'. Why?

If read Gita everyday and liked reading

and contemplating on it - it wouldn't be

called an 'addiction'. But, if I liked reading

porn and read and thought about it everyday -

it would be called an 'addiction'. Why?

If I liked working in office and worked

everyday with purpose, focus and discipline

and if I really liked doing it - I wouldn't

call that an 'addiction'. But, if I liked

spending time on Internet, chatting,

conversing and engaging in activities that

don't bring 'money' - that might be

called an 'addiction'. Why?

What is an 'addiction', then?

Is addiction just an activity that I like

to engage in because at some level I enjoy

it; but, which is considered 'wrong', by me

or others, because, it can harm my body,

brain or society?

Is an addiction just an activity in which

'I am split' - that is one part of me really

like it and says it feels pleasant and I " should "

do it - while another part, such as my intellect

says I shouldn't do it?

Is 'addiction' just a split in personality

and, nothing really different than any other

activity that we like to frequently engage in?

Maybe, so far, I have got 'addiction'

all wrong.

What is addiction in your view?

Is an addiction simply an activity

that you repeatedly engage in against

the dictates of your intellect?

>An addiction is when you do something and are not aware that it

initiated itself and is happening and happening and happening and

you are the flea on the dog and not its' master.

addictions to whatever.....cause normally some problems to the

imaginary entity, who believe he/she is this or that....and therefore

need this or that.....to be happy....and to stay being happy

problems happen at times....when for some reason, the imaginary

entity can't get anymore what he/she is addicted to....

Marc

Ps: addictions are in relation with ego-mind

less ego-mind.....less addictions
