Guest guest
(You can buy this book, or read it for free online.) Here's my favorite line: Chapter Eight 44. At first it is subtle and you won't know what it is, but you will know that you like it. I think volumes could be written about that line. Because I think that, living in panic culture, we are taught, over and over again, to ignore or crush subtlety. And what is that moment of awareness of subtlety? It's a trace of serenity and perspective. And it is marginalized by the imposition of our enslavement. It's condemned as ambiguous. And it is, precisely, ambiguity that is dreaded by panic culture, which only values crude gender, political, financial, etc., polarization. Even art, science and religion are colonized by extremist polarization. It isn't enough to dabble in any of these fields. One must be totally committed to them, in order to " matter. " Thus, we are categorized by our sexual activity, as if this even began to cover " who we are. " One is coerced into the procrustean bed of either gay, straight or bi, married, single, divorced. And people buy it, loudly proclaiming one or another 'identity.' What do you think? (Whenever somebody asks me to state my allegiance, I think I'll say, " subtle. " )

(Whenever somebody asks me to state my allegiance, I think > I'll say, " subtle.
