There is strange bird

with tiny, vestigial wings

a soft , rollypoley body

and a large head with big eyes

 

It always flies

in the jet stream zone

in fact it lives there

and never lands

because without a great wind behind it

it can't move at all

 

It has two songs

or rather two cries

 

which is used depends on whether

the bird deems the wind favorable

or otherwise

 

in the first case

it shrieks:

WOW it's ME

 

in the second

(the cries are similar

but a trained ear knows them at once)

it shrieks:

Woe is Me

 

the second shriek

has the quality

some say

of a loud whimper
