beauty of monastic life

A monk is under the obligation to turn his " will " over to someone else.

He is as though a corpse being handled by another. If the handler moves

his arm ,then his arm moves and not otherwise. This gives the monk time

to reflect on the strange fact that he can be as dead and still go

about getting things done. All of us non-monks are in exactly the same

case as the monk--we have no power to do anything on our " own " , but

usually we think we have, and move through the streets as though we

were using our own power. It is as though a sailing ship should get the

idea that it has an engine and is moving under its own power when its'

sails are cracking and full of wind. Z

If the monk is thinking that he can be as dead and still go about

getting things done.......he is as delusional as the rest of the zombies.

If he believes that there is something that exists......albeit in

possession of no power......he is still in the dream.

He has merely become identified with his monkness and its imagined

powerlessness.

Well, there are monks and there are monks. Not all of them are

idiots. Some people have just had enough, had enough , had enough of

all the 57 varieties of worldly bullshit and gravitate to a place

where they can safely let go of all that. Z
