It's odd to know that this ringing I hear so clear, is not real. I mean, no one but me can hear it. How is this ringing different from a voice in the brain that tells that I am insane? Well, this ringing has no meaning, it's a monotone. So, it's easy to ignore, most of the time, I am not aware it's there, unless it flares up in volume. If it were a voice telling me things, even if it were good things, it'd be difficult to ignore, it'd be upsetting. But think about it, the only difference between tinnitus and hearing voices is meaning, and the only difference between hearing voices and thought, is sound. So why don't you consider yourself crazy when you think without wanting to?

Yes, Pete, So simple and so true ... > So why don't you > consider yourself crazy when you think > without wanting to? This is THE question of all questions. But I am afraid no one on this list here and I think also not on other lists really is interested in it because it is much easier and much more satisfying to talk about love, peace and bliss or about the glory of one's spiritual attainments than to find out why the hell one can not end this constant chattering of thought. Without no thoughts, no Werner, Mark, or Pete. I don't need Pete to be around all the time, so I can go without thoughts for minutes, or hours, but most can't stand that for even 30 seconds. > > > > >

And Pete, Mark and Werner by no means want to be alone because they are the representatives of all those survival strategies, especially regarding one's social security of family, friends, etc. This is found again in that simple statement of Ramana: " When thought is silent you remain alone " . And remaining alone is a threat of death. If one really remains alone then there no longer is any need for that bundle of suvival startegies called Pete, Mark and Werner.
