Guest guest
In response to toombaru’s statement/realization/confession that…”There is no such thing as a whirlpool......and yet there is”, I’m reminded of Buckminster Fuller’s statement/realization/confession that “Life is a VERB!” To this I add, in life there are no “nouns” (i.e., people, places, or things)…simply, merely, only, and just “functioning” (verbing). A “whirlpool” IS the whirlingnessing that can be distinguished via the body’s sensory capacities and then “named” by the intellect. This “name” then serves as a “referent” to a certain process(ing) occuring…not to an “identity” as a separate “thing” unto itself. However, it appears that for the most part goes unrealized so the “word” is then mistakenly thought (assumed) to refer to a “thing”. In addition, this whirlpoolingnessing could not be happening unless everything/process(ing) else (so to speak) is happening when it is happening just as it is happening. As Nisargadatta put it, a “thing” is because “everything” is the way it is. Keeping in mind that there’s no such “thing” as a “thing”….only functioning/verbing/processing. Another way of stating this is that the psychophysical apparatus has the ability to focus on specific “aspects” of the totality of functioning and conceptually “extract” that aspect, name it, and then think of or believe it to be a “thing” unto itself. Just like “extracting” the color “orange” from the spectrum of light (e.g., rainbow) and thinking/believing that “orange” exists separate from all the other colors that surround it. But where does orange “end” and red “begin”? When the circular activity (verbing) that is referred to as a “whirlpool” stops….where does the “whirlpool” go? The answer is, “nowhere” since it wasn’t a “thing” to go or be anywhere. But it does “exist” as an activity and unless you (as a “processing”) wants to be sucked under…I strongly suggest you avoid certain sized whirlpools! :-o Michael A
