Conceptual mind and the resulting sense of self evolved because they help the

organism

survive.

 

The I am helps the organism subsist by using its past experiences and applying

what it has

learned to its imaginary future.

 

Its design functions to constantly strive for better living conditions and no

matter how

good it has it.....it operates in the " always more " mode.

 

It is never satiated....It is never happy for long.

 

The design function of constantly striving is carried over into its imaginary

spiritual realm

where it strives for a bigger and better self that it hopes to become.

 

It puts itself through a regime of denying and restricting its natural urges to

appease an

imaginary God.......it imagines a higher form of consciousness that it can

attain and

hopefully live in a much bigger and safer bubble....It pushes itself ever onward

into what is

imagined to be its own future perfection.

 

It will slovenly follow anybody that promises a key to doors that do not exist.

 

It will devote its life to mulling over the words of long dead people.....hoping

to find the

right combination that will open the doors to a place where it can be free of

the constant

nagging tension of fear.

 

It will sit for hours.....trying to still itself.....so that it can enter into a

state of imagined

peace.

 

It will eat only vegetables.......because it has been told that that will

somehow help it in its

journey home.

 

It is a mind whose function is to feather its own nest........and it does that

24/7 in its

physical and imaginary spiritual realms.

 

In its frantic search.....it misses entirely the simple joy of just being.

 

Thank goodness that it dies with the body.
