Guest guest
Every Labor Day our little village has a parade. This year I was watching the local gardening club get their flower wagons ready when I saw one of the older members fall backwards. She hit her head so hard the sound resonated between the buildings surrounding the group. Paramedics were called just as the rest of them hurriedly scurried onto the street. The Shriners rode little air planes with round, clear plastic cutouts that looked a lot like spinning propellers. I watched a young trombone player in the high school hyperventilate. I imagined that she believed that everyone in town would be watching her. And there were clowns..... I wondered what their life was like. My son and I were standing together when a flatbed truck stopped in front of us with the football team aboard sitting on hay bales. " Well " , my son said " The football team is looking at us........and we are looking at them " . So............What is it with parades? What is the attraction? Is it another attempt to feel substantial toombaru
