There has never been any reason to believe that there is a higher or better form that awareness-sentience has evolved beyond the simple self-awareness that manifests as the illusory identified entity called " me " . There is no reason or indication to believe that all these imaginary characters are really parts of one big all encompassing consciousness that lives forever and ever. Awareness-sentience evolved as a natural product of evolution....as did self-awareness. There is no reason to suspect that it will continue if the universe were to collapse into itself. Consciousness is matter.......matter is consciousness. They arise and subside as one. What if......consciousness.....as experienced through the human mechanism is the best that consciousness-awareness has ever had to offer? What if there were nothing beyond....nothing on either side of.... human consciousness? What if you were the leading edge of all that is.....and you spend your allotted time worrying about what the other dream characters were saying? What if you were the whole package....right now? That would make you the keeper of the keys to the kingdom.....a rare and delightful creature......never seen before.....never to be seen again. Are you ready for that? Consciousness is what we communicate and share with each other. And that is absolute subjective and in no way objective. A so called " higher " consciousness does not exist, it is total nonsense.
