FROM THE SATSANGHS OF SAIBANISA JI http://saibanisa.blogspot.com/ Shirdi Sai's Philosophy in the words of Saibanisaji REALITY OF HUMAN LIFE People should cast away, while they are young and healthy, all their greed and attachment to worldly affairs, and should seek earnestly for true Enlightenment, for there can be no lasting reliance or happiness apart from Enlightenment. Most people, however, disbelieve or ignore this law of cause and effect. They go on in their habits of greed and selfishness, being oblivious of the fact that a good deed brings happiness and an evil deed brings misfortune. Nor do they really believe that one’s acts in this life condition the following lives and implicate others with regard to the rewards and punishments for their sins. Nothing in the world is permanent or lasting; everything is changing and momentary and unpredictable. But people are ignorant and selfish, and are concerned only with the desires and sufferings of the passing moment. They do not listen to the good teachings nor do they try to understand them; they simply give themselves up to the present interest, to wealth and lust. Compiled by: Sai Sevak Smt. Rajeswari Kasturi, Saidarbar – Hyderabad. To be continued------- ----------------------- 2. SAI'S NEWS FROM THE TIME MACHINE: 10th December,1909: Devotees began to offer regular worship to Baba in the Chavidi, where Baba slept on alternate days. 25th December, 1909: Baba gave darshan in the form of SriRama to a doctor who was an ardent devotee of Sri Rama who came with a Mamlatdar to Shirdi. 10th December, 1910: Foundation stone of Dixit Wada was laid with Baba's permission. -------------------------------- 3. SAI IN DREAMS http://www.ettitudemedia.com These are the dream sequences and messages as received by SaiBaNiSaji From our beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF SHIRDI. In Anticipation that this feature will help in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled from his personal Diary and presented to SAIBANDHUS. Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY. APRIL-1996 16-04-1996 Yesterday, Sai appeared as an unknown person and spoke- 1. Will you prefer to buy good chocolates wrapped in an ordinary paper or ordinary chocolates sold in costly /attractive bags? 2. Would you like to opt eating manually pound rice good for health or polished rice that appear good with reduced nutrients. 3. When you cannot go to office due to health reasons, I shall arrange your transport. 4. Speak to Saibandhus about Sai philosophy only. Service to self should be followed before venturing upon service to other in this field. All that glitters is not gold. In spiritualism keep self-interest above all. 17-04-1996 Yesterday, Sai appeared as an unknown person and said- You are talking about Sai both inside and outside the house, but you are a little away from the Saipath. Try reducing the gap. 2. You may not satisfy towards all the materialistic needs of the visitors to your house; however you can attempt to enrich them spiritually. Sai fulfils every desire of HIS devotees. 18-04-1996 Sai appeared as a saint and presented with the message: Today all of you are gathered to call yourselves as Saibandhus. Remember that I am all-pervasive and knowing all your inter-relationships as I am a Vishawabandhu (universal bandhu). Everybody is under constant surveillance of Sai. To be continued------- ----------------------------- 4. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY: (By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao) 'Shashi': shashi_31 32. Significance of Meditation Preliminaries to Meditation “Do Sadhana to experience the state of thoughtlessness thru meditation. This is definitely a Superior State. In the sate of Nirvikalpa Samadhi, everything appears as ‘Brahman’. When the illusion of life ceases we will experience the Supreme Knowledge that we are ‘Para-Brahma’. Our Ajnana will be burnt in the fire of that knowledge. We should not stop at that. We must further know that ‘Paramatma’ is in us only. This can be realized by only Meditation. We must cry for God to experience His sweetness in meditation. Our sorrows drop off as we turn inwards deeply in meditation. If we meditate on Sri Sai Baba whole-heartedly, we shall have a blessed life. If we meditate on Baba thru Nirvikalpa Samadhi, we will become eternal and prove to be the sole Supreme Consciousness. If we have faith in Sri Sai Baba and meditate, our mind shall be pristine, pure (Suddha-Satvika). If we thus meditate, we shall experience certain appearances such as Divine Jyothi. Such appearances are proof that our mind is sanctified. Meditation doesn’t mean a Karma done with the mind. Meditation is looking into the transactions of Karma generated in the mind. This is the insight. The insight is the one that wipes out our defects. This deep insight removes our sorrows and worries. Meditative life is a blessed life and gives Divine pleasure. We must always make ourselves ‘Atman Vimarsha’ by recapitulating all that we have done so far in this birthâ€. To be continued…... ----------------------------- 5. IN THE DAYS OF SHRI SHIRDI SAIBABA How Shri BabuRao Aurangabadkar fared in not Adhering Baba’s instructions Shri BabuRao Aurangabadkar when he was in Shirdi, he often compelled Baba for permission to return to his home. Baba told him to wait. As he went on compelling Baba every now and then for permission, Baba was vexed with him and told him “Do What ever you like and I will not bear any thingâ€? Without knowing the significance of Baba’s words, he started his journey. After he had gone a mile, there came heavy rains and blocked his further journey. He had to stay there in the middle and proceeded with his further journey on the next day. Then he realised Baba’s advice. How Madhava Rao Despande (Shama) fared in not adhering Baba’s advice: Shri Madhavarao Deshpande (Shama) has to go to Kopargaom to attend a call by the office of the Mamlatdar. Baba asked him not to go. Even then, he has proceeded to Kopargaom to Mamlatadar’s office. After passing Neemgaom the Mamlatdar him self came to Shirdi, from Kopargaom. MadhavaRao met the Mamalatdar and accompanied back Shirdi. He felt very much for not adhering Baba’s advice. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES: vijmanju Tue, April 8, 2008 2:58 am Manjuvijay My joy knew no bounds when I happen to know about this site! Yes I am quite relaxed after reading all your experiences. Sai Ram who is constantly in touch with all of us has played a role in my life too. During the year 2003, my husband was employed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - this happened just a week before I was planning to join him. I am Telugu and got married to a Tamilian of course our marriage was arranged one. I visited Vellore where my in-laws live and to inform them regarding my joining husband. I was visiting my elder sister-in-law who lives in Bangalore along with my 4 yr old daughter and mother-in-law. I was not having more than enough money in hand as I was running through a crucial financial crunch in the process of joining him. But they all thought that I am blessed with lot of money and were bullying me very badly through their acts, never mind, as we were leaving from Bangalore to Vellore my younger sister-in-law joined us and my mother-in law had already left a day before to perform shrardham for father-in-law's father. I was really running short of money for the ticket and just when we were about to see off, my elder sister-in-law's husband's chinnana(father's younger brother) who never talks to us more than hai & bye had called my daughter near to him and blessed her and offered her Rs.100/- I really found Sairam in him. I strongly feel this is a miracle in my life since Sairam saved me from an embracing situation. As we reached Vellore the very next day I left for Chennai along with my daughter in a local bus which cost very less and I was able to manage, to my surprise the front glass of bus was cracked and broken due to high temperature and all the passengers were asked to get down and look for another bus with no pay for the rest of their travel. It was around noon time and extremely hot and my 4 yr old daughter who has been always submissive was co-operating with me without being cranky. Thanks to Sri Sai Ram for making her understand the situation. All of a sudden there was a Tata Sumo which stopped and a couple was ready to give us lift as they were leaving for Ponneri which was reachable via Chennai. We got down very near to the place where my parents live and reached home safely. Today I have strong belief in SaiRam and I am searching for a job without much stress and which can bring me home soon so that I can do justice to my 8yr old daughter who needs my attention as we live in sharing accommodation in Dubai since the cost of living is too high here. I urge my fellow devotees to pray for us to settle well without debts and do help others during their crisis. I also want you guys to pray for my younger sister-in-law who is at present a divorcee to settle in her life. I will help her by all means. Lot of prayers required for me to get a job of my desire, to curb our debts and for my sister-in-law to settle. I firmly believe that our Sai Baghwan will surely lead me to reach the path of peace as soon as possible. From today I will chant Om Sai Sri Sai Jai Jai Sai. Bow to Sri Sai, Peace be to all. Nanna Kappadu Please.... Your daughter Manju. --------------- 7. SAI WITH CHILDREN: http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad. Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with children and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be entertained with good stories. Now I want to tell the stories what heard in my child hood. THE GOLDEN BIRD Long long ago there was a great king. He had a large beautiful pond in his palace. There, many beautiful golden coloured swans had made their home. Once in a month, these swans used a drop of golden feather for the king to keep. In return, the king let them stay in the pond and some servants used to feed the swans every day. One day golden water – bird flew to the pond. He made the pond his home. He had feathers of pure gold all over his body. When other swans saw this, they felt very jealousy. They felt threatened by the arrival of new, uninvited guest to the pond. They called a meeting. When the discussion began one of the swans said, “Friends we give only one gold feather to the king once a month. But this golden bird has so many that surely the King will start preferring him to us. We will be no longer important or valuable for the king. If we want to keep our importance and value as usual, we must chase this bird away.†The other swans agreed to him in unison. So one of them went to the golden bird and said, “Please will you go and make your home in a some other pond? We are afraid that your presence will lessen our value in the eyes of the king. He will care only for you and we will be left unattended.†But the golden bird was a stubborn one. He insisted on staying in that pond only. Soon an argument began which soon changed into a major fight. When the servants saw the swans fighting with the golden bird, they went and told the king. The king ordered “Go and cage the swans. They are being foolish to fight with a guest like this. They must be taught a lesson.†When the servants approached the pond with cages, an old swan saw them. He warned the others, “Quick, get ready to fly off. The king’s men are here to catch us. He must have heard of our fights.†So all the swans took flight and flew away from the pond. So by not accepting a guest they had lost their home and comforts provided in the palace pond. ------------ 8. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA swamymain Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 9:50 PM Shri Sai Satcharitra Chapter XXXI The Passing Away In Baba's Presence of - (1) Sannyasi Vijayanand - (2) Balaram Mankar - (3) Noolkar - (4) Megha - and (5) The Tiger. In this Chapter Hemadpant describes the passing away of certain persons and a tiger in Baba's presence. Preliminary The last wish or thought that a man has at the hour of death, determines his future course. Shri Krishna has said in Gita (VIII-5-6) that "he, who remembers Me in his last moments, comes verily to Me, and he that meditates otherwise at that time goes to what he looks for." We cannot be certain that we can entertain a particular good thought at our last moment, for, more often than not, we are more likely to be frightened and terrified by many causes. Hence constant practice is necessary for enabling us to fix our mind on any desired good thought at any or the last moment. All Saints, therefore, recommended us to always remember God and chant His name always, so that we may not be puzzled when the time for departure comes. The devotees on their part surrender themselves completely to the Saints, fully believing that the all-knowing Saints would guide and help them in their last moments. A few such cases will be noted here. SSG: Sai Ram. Remembering God's name or Saint's name (God and Saint is same, there is no difference between Sant and Anant as Shri Hemadpant tells us some where else) also needs lot of sadhana and getting a taste for the name needs some merit on our part either in this or in some previous birth.. Similarly, reading these articles or writing also needs His grace! Thus remembering Sant or Anant anyone is as effective as remembering the other. In fact, God is more pleased with those who remember His faithful devotees (God is Bhakta Sulabh and Bhakta Paradheen). Sai Ram has the double advantage of making us remember Sai and Ram. VIJAYANAND A Madrasi Sannyasi named Vijayanand started on a pilgrimage to Manasa-Sarovar. En route, hearing Baba's fame, he halted at Shirdi. There he met one Somadevaji Swami of Hardwar and enquired of him about the particulars of the Manasa-Sarovar trip. The Swami told him that the Sarovar was 500 miles above the Gangotri and described to him the difficulties of the journey, viz. plenty of snow and the change of dialect every 50 koss and the suspicious nature of the people of Bhutan who give a lost of trouble to the pilgrims on the way. SSG: We read about this Swami in another chapter of Sri Sai Satcharita, where he gets his doubts about yoga cleared from Sri Sai (Yog and Onion is the title of that story). From this story, it appears as if Sri Somdev Swami visited Shirdi more than once. I will share more about him if I get some more details some where else. Sai Ram. SSS: Hearing this, the Sannyasi was dejected and cancelled the trip. Then when he went to Baba and prostrated himself before Him, Baba got enraged and said, "Drive out this useless Sannyasi, his company is of no use". The Sannyasi did not know Baba's nature. He felt discomforted, but sat there watching things that were going on. It was the morning Darbar and the Dwarakamayi was overcrowded. Baba was being worshipped in various ways. Some were washing His Feet, some taking the Theerth (holy water) from His toe and drinking it heartily and some touching their eyes with it, some were applying sandal-paste, and some scents to His body. And all were doing these things forgetting the distinction of caste and creed. Though Baba got enraged with him, he was filled with affection for Baba and he did not like to leave the place. SSG: Sai Ram. Baba did not get enraged with Vijayanand but with his fickle nature. A Sanyasi should be totally indifferent to comfort or discomfort and danger if any to physical welfare. He should not mind even death since he knows that death and birth are in God's hand and therefore should not be afraid. The word Sanyas means "Well established" (establishing the nature of Atma in one's mind). A person who is firmly established truth (Aham Brahmasmi, Sivoham etc.) is called Sanyasi, not necessarily one who wears Kashaya (Ochre) robes. A Sanyasi who is easily deflected from his goal is of no use to himself and to the society. The sense of unity with the Paramatma is supposed to be well established and in such people, there is no place for fear or lassitude. One should not take Sanyas casually. Sai was indicating the same. Sai Ram. SSS: He stayed in Shirdi for two days when he got a letter from Madras stating that his mother was very ill. He felt very dejected and wanted to be by his mother's side; but he could not leave without Baba's permission. So he saw Baba with the letter in hand and asked for His permission to return home. The omniscient Baba knowing the future said to him - "If you so loved your mother, why did you take Sannayas? Fondness or attachment ill becomes an ochre garb. Go and sit quiet at your lodging, wait with patience for a few days. In the Wada there are many robbers, bolt your doors, be very vigilant, the thieves will carry everything. SSG: Baba was alluding to our knowledge of ourselves. The thieves and robbers are our sense organs and attachments to the body, mind, ego etc. Wada means the mind. Bolting the doors represents good control over thoughts. Yama, Niyama etc. The first firm steps on the path of spirituality can be taken only after getting control over one’s mind. Sai Ram. SSS: "Wealth and prosperity are transient and the body is subject to decay and death. Knowing this, do your duty, leaving all attachment to the things of this world and next. He who does this and surrenders himself to the Feet of Hari (Lord) will get free from all troubles and attain bliss. The Lord runs and helps him who remembers and meditates on Him with love and affection. Your store of past merits is considerable, so you have come here. Now attend to what I say and realise the end of your life. Be desireless, begin from tomorrow the study of Bhagwat. Do three 'saptahas' i.e. three reading during three weeks, conscientiously. The Lord will be pleased with you and destroy your sorrows, your illusions will vanish and you will get peace." Seeing that his end was approaching, Baba prescribed that remedy and made him read 'Ramavijaya' which pleases the God of death. Next morning after bathing and other purifying rites he commenced to read Bhagwat in a secluded part in the Lendi garden. He completed two readings and thereafter felt much exhausted. He returned to the Wada and stayed in his lodging for two days and on the third day he breathed his last on Fakir (Bade) Baba's lap. Baba asked the people to preserve the body for a day for a good reason. The police afterwards came and on making proper enquiries gave permission for the disposal of the body. It was buried in a proper place with due rites. In this way Baba helped the Sannyasi and ensured him Sadgati (salvation). SSG: Sai Ram. Since Baba knew the future, He arranged for the proper path to the Sanyasi, so that he attained sadgati. His store of past merits was indeed considerable. Sai Ram. ARTICLES FROM SAI DEVOTEES: SRI DATTATREYA JAYANTI on (12-12-2008) Dattatreya was born to Sage Atri and his wife Anasuya. Atri's wife, Anasuya, was once tested by the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva) themselves, when they wished to test her loyalty and devotion to her husband. The three changed form and arrived at her ashram while Atri was away. She welcomed them in traditional manner and offered food, at which they came up with a strange request: that they would partake her hospitality only if she removed all her clothes and served them. Anasuya knew through her spiritual powers that the gods were testing her, so she acquiesced. She sprinkled some water on the Trinity, which turned them into toddlers and thus she, as a mother, could reveal her natural form to these infants and feed them! When Sage Atri returned, he saw the three great gods, the Trinity, lying in the cradle as toddlers! When he heard from Anasuya what had transpired, he could only laugh. The divine consorts by now feared that their husbands would forever be reduced to babies, and so they pleaded with Anasuya to transform the toddlers into their original form. Anasuya washed her husband's feet with water, and sprinkled the water, thus sanctified, on the three babies who attained their original form. Pleased with her devotion to her husband and happy at her ingenuity, the Trinity granted her a boon. It was at this point that she asked that the three be born to her as her real babies! And they were: Brahma as Chandra (Moon), Vishnu as Dattatreya, and Shiva as Durvasa. Thus, Dattatreya was born to such an important sage, who lived with his wife in an ashram near Sucheendram, near Kanyakumari, at the southern tip of India. A temple honouring Dattatreya stands near the ashram. When they grew up, Chandra went to Chandralok to live and shine, Durvasa went to the forests to meditate, while Dattatreya stayed back and looked after his parents. As Dattatreya was born of a boon granted by the Trinity, he is often depicted as one with three heads representing Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. Dattatreya served his parents selflessly and was later born as an avatar purush (holy incarnation), considered to be the Sai Baba of Shirdi. ------------- 10.
