I can have a mathematical idea in a few seconds that might take a day to write down. What is written down is like a " recipe " for " reconstituting " the idea in the brain of another mathematician. I have this on good authority, mind you. > > Hah ;-). I'll defer to your " superior authority " for this view on memory. Quite a construction. I'm a simple fellow, and don't have this sort of view on memory. From here, if something is remembered there's memory involved... and if the mind is quiet and no memory arises, there's no memory (awareness is quite capable of being aware of the absence of thought). I'm not one to postulate invisible stuffs. For me, any image involves memory. Including the image of being still and silent. Any human experience is an image. Any idea or sense of awareness involves memory. I understand that Niz used awareness to mean that which is beyond memory and doesn't involve memory. The reason that seems limited is that awareness has a meaning, and therefore has an opposite condition (e.g. something that is not aware). Again, I know he used the word meaning that which has no opposite, so that everything is included in awareness. However, that seems limited because you take a word that has a meaning then expand that word to be all-inclusive but still retain the word. And any word expanded to all-inclusion necessarily loses any meaning because there is no opposite condition. So, this is what I mean by using the term " awarenesses " - one is many and many is one - and beyond that we reach a limit of words. Words have meaning because memory is involved. Memory confers the sense of meaning to experience. Any human experience is involves a sense of meaning, or it can't be recalled. Even an experience of one millisecond ago, recalled in any aspect, involves memory. What humans call our present experience is actually a memory reverberation. We infer a present moment that is becoming the past as it registers in memory. However, there is no actual " passing into memory. " Examine this now. Is there any sensing of an actual present passing into memory? You can't find it. Not if you take a clean, hard look. There is only memory reverberation, and the greater intensity of a portion of the reverberation is classified as " present. " Thus, people with PTSD can experience what others think is long past as present. The actual present isn't recalled, doesn't involve memory, isn't a human experience, isn't divided into past, present, future. The memory system is a thought system is an image-oriented system. Of course, nothing exists outside the actual present, the now. And this now, being all-inclusive, reaches a point where the word can't be used, it has lost meaning. Just like " awareness. " So there are nows and now. Many are one is many. Now = awareness = infinity = zero. This zero is not experienced and includes all experience. Once one knows, the words don't matter. One understands, and now is the word which has no meaning because it is all inclusive. " Before beginning, is the Word. " That which is not experience has no word, no memory, no reverberation as a so-called " present human experience. " Yet, as a human I love to share words about this wordless word. What is it to simultaneously be a human and experiencing, and beyond human and experiences? What is it to be dream and dream-stuff at once? An indian guy said it's to be the lotus that lives floating on water and doesn't get wet. A zen guy called it the flute with no holes. A tao guy said, in the beginning was chaos. Then someone poked holes in it.

Like Chaung Tzu's butterfly! Here's a dream description that I shared here a while back (actual dream). I think you'll see the humor.... Dream Someone attempting to escape from a library. I see his escape route and go to head him off. But an old man is in my way. It looks like I won't get there in time. Then, just starting to awaken, I put the whole dream into quotes. And now I have him, captured inside the quotes. There's no escape. Bill

Like having more light enter your experience? Or having an experience that goes on and off? I rather view the understanding we're discussing as simultaneously transcending any experiential component or qualities, and inclusive of any experience that happens. For the now-moment of experiential awareness, one is that experience. Not that this is special for a particular person. All persons are experiential/aware beings (sentient critters), and thus each person is an experience for/of/as awareness, and thus all persons are included. At the same time, one is not any experience at all. Yes/no on/off -- Dan
