Questioner: To be content with mere being seems to be a most selfish way of

passing time.

Nisargadatta Maharaj: A most worthy way of being selfish! By all means be

selfish by foregoing everything but the Self. When you love the Self and nothing

else, you go beyond the selfish and the unselfish. All distinctions lose their

meaning. Love of one and love of all merge together in love, pure and simple,

addressed to none, denied to none.

Stay in that love, go deeper and deeper into it, investigate yourself and love

the investigation and you will solve not only your own problems but also the

problems of humanity. You will know what to do. Do not ask superficial

questions; apply yourself to fundamentals, to the very roots of your being.

Here the " Self " , in the beguining of the text is used as the ground,

awareness. One cant tell what would be the original word in his dialect.

From here the word " Self " is fine, because it suggests " not-other " or " no

other " .

Some object to the word " Self " ... mostly, it seems, people who are rejecting

themselves, trying to get rid of themselves ;-). Which, ironically, is an

activity of the self.

I'm sitting quietly and " just BE-ing " maybe 10-12 hours/day, at least... other

activities are not really of interest, just being quiet is good.

How about you, Werner?

That means nothing, Tim.

It's what happens, and what you do when you're in the marketplace,

when someone rattles your cage, so to speak. When someone steps on your toes,

and slaps you with hurtful words.

Can you be still then?

Do you carry that stillness deep inside, and react from that place?

Do you choose to be compassionate, regardless?

Like when a mother weeps for years after her child dies? Can you bear her pain

in silence?

I never sit quiet. I am doing no spiritual or mental exercises whatsoever. And I

can do nothing about that.

Yes, I'm doing no spiritual or mental exercises, either.

Just lost interest in pursuing the unpursuable, in grasping the ungraspable, in

holding the unholdable, and in communicating with the incommunicable ;-).

Bye, me.

P.S. I'm not aware of any 'hurtful words'.

Neither inside nor outside. It is.

I'm not around to choose, have never chosen.

You're speaking from the position of an assumed observer, an " I " .

The words spoken are more-or-less garble, having no meaning. This conflict,

this absurd verbal " nonbeing " , is what you cling to.

I feel sad, that after all this time, you still don't engage fully.

What is the difference between the 12 hours a day you are still and these

other instances (not the 12 hours)?

Who's " you? " ;-).

After how much time?

Who's really being addressed here?

Don't lie.

You don't even know me... ;-).

So, stop with the shit already, Anna.

P.S. When one realizes " others " are not others, it's a simple matter to engage

with others... but, really not much more interesting than being alone.

Whatever you say, think and feel is *your* reality, Tim. Think not that it's

*mine*... even as we share this flatness of being...pumping ourselves up with
