Guest guest
Quite a few nondualists want to place awareness on an ontological pedestal. Awareness as perfect knower, the immaculate view. In reality, our awareness of the world and of ourselves is a censured view. Our brains hide from us more than they reveal. We are never aware that images reach our brain upside down, we never see the blind spot in the center of the eye, where the optic nerve enters the retina. People whose brain hemispheres have been separated surgically to treat epilepsy, only see the left side of every object, but never notice they are seeing everything cut in half. Imagine looking at a mirror and only seeing half your face, and not noticing it. For these people nothing has changed. Their consciousness is blissfully ignorant of their handicap. We'll never know how many things our brains are hiding from view. Like those who live in a police state, we only perceive what our shadowy censor want us to know. Awareness is not everything, it is only the censored view. Pete P: Hey, Bob, Is it OK, if I keep posting this sort of scat in your list? I'm sure it is, but I always like to check with the owner of the list. I know that you are a good scatologist yourself versed in all kind of shits. I, myself, can tell the difference with the naked eye between the turd of a mosquito, and that of a fly.

Could you elaborate that a bit > more... P: You take Awareness to be an absolute, instead of a mental representation of data much like what you see on your monitor while reading this. If awareness were one and indivisible, we could not know, but because each brain has its own awareness, other people's pathological conditions teach us all awareness are not the same. > >

That's why the resulting awareness > is totally subjective. > > Werner > > You said the same thing for " consciousness " . So...which?? > -geo- Hey Geo - Pete and Werner have a habit of referring to what awareness is and is not, as if they somehow can be aware of awareness from a position outside of it, and can pronounce about its limits. You can confront these dudes a thousand times, saying that you can't separate yourself from awareness to say what it is, because to do so you would have to be able to be aware of awareness without being the awareness you're looking at. But they will never get that. The reason they will never get it is that they have an investment in their position of being able to make pronouncements about how awareness is produced by the brain. As if they could stand outside of awareness as it's being produced by something, see the something and the awareness being produced, and make comments about it - all without acknowledging that they are in the position of being aware of the awareness, that is, attempting to be aware from outside of awareness to talk about it. It's a ridiculous contradiction, and an obvious one, and it's also obvious when there's too much of an investment in a position to be honest about how self-contradictory the position is. - Dan -
