Magic Vs Science

I see no problem in seeing the brain as the

mirror which the universe, or Self use

(whatever name you prefer to designate

the immutable source) to see itself.

It all boils down to whether you believe

in magic, or science. Magic is the belief

that results need no rational means. Science

is the belief that the universe evolved according

to consistent rational rules, and that the brain is

the organ that not only reflects the product

of such rules, but that can discover those

means that created the reflection we enjoy.

Whenever conceptuality " threatens " to fall on its face and be seen for what it

is, a temporary/passing arising in the ocean of Now, Pete gets these obsessive

thoughts about the brain.

Thoughts about objectivity, thoughts that feel as though they anchor him into

some objective reality, give him some sense of control.

That's OK -- it's nonvolitional, can't be helped.

P: Hehe! Really dude! Is your insistence on not recognizing

your brain less of an obsession?

Is there some point to thinking about the brain?

Is something going to happen if I don't think about it?

P.S. I don't think much about my kidneys or my spleen, either.

Guess I'm not a candidate for medical school... heheh.

I acknowledge that they're there.

In fact, I believe I did so in elementary school.

Why think or talk further about it?

brain is like the hardware and the mind is the software. combined together they

reconstruct the outside world for an independent moving object (our bodies).

there's no doubt consciousness happens in the mind's software...because we move.

on the other hand, trees which can live hundreds of years don't seem to need

consciousness to survive because they don't move. it's ok to say if you're

moving you need consciouness to deal with danger.

geo: And that what you call mind is reconstructed where?

there's no magic glass you can look through at this point but it's in the brain.

when there are big holes in the head, the brain/mind stops working.

the typical question an advaitan guru would ask to inquire where the " i-thought "

arises from is not the same as where the mind resides.
