Hi All,

I read Nisargadatta' s books. I found our life depends on destiny. So where the

concept of free-will fits in?

Please share your views.

Thanks

So, what is free will? That there is no free will doesn't mean that yourwhole life is written in stone. The leafs ona branch have no free will, they dance as thewind blows, but the wind is not destiny, it hasno purpose and no goal, it blows according tocauses that endlessly recede into an unknown Whole.

Gloria:

Does it make any...sense, I guess, to say that freedom may be seen as becoming free of one's personal will, which is based on an illusory idea of a separate self? In a half-understood way, it seems to me to be ultimate freedom. But it is frustratingly out of focus for me, much of the time. I am so leery of just another interpretation--another wave of the tail to get me circling again :)

Free will is a feeling, and so is destiny.

Such feelings arises non-volitionally, choicelessly, along with everything else.

Free will goes along with the sense that one faces choices, and those choices

make a difference.

And choices, along with the responses to them, arise choicelessly.

The feeling of destiny is that things were pre-determined to be a certain way

that precludes choice.

And that also is a nonvolitionally arising concept.

Both free-will and destiny depend on perceiving oneself as having an existence

of one's own that occurs over a period of time.

And if one sees for even a moment without the " lens of time, " neither free will

nor destiny will be a matter of concern.

The universe arises non-volitionally " now " - not because of what came before,

nor because of someone's will, nor because of a master plan.

One understands this, because one's arising now, is the arising of the universe

one is experiencing, which is the same arising.

I asked the priest that in so many words as an 8 yr old: if God knows

everything how can we have free will?

Well the answer was always hidden IN Self, AS Self and BY Self.

Destiny describes the path that was earmarked since the beginning of time. Free

will is its route THROUGH Self.

Neither Destiny or Free Will can or will ever take us anywhere that is Not-Self.

A school teacher asked our class the same question you asked the priest. My

reply was, in this case, God is acting as a seer of the future (an Edgar Cayce

of sorts); He is not making the choices; we are.

When there is the infinite, timeless, spaceless one, where is there room for

destiny?

Hi Geo,

A temporary miscommunication. I was talking of the (pardon the expression) past.

" My name, it means nothing; my age it means less. " But I'll bet I have adult

children who are your age.
