Guest guest
I have uploaded the definition for Advaita to the Novices folder and it is also available at http://www.advaita.org.uk/discourses/definitions/advaita.htm. In addition to the story I posted, this also contains additional material from H. N. Sreenivasa Murthy and Dhyanasaraswati. In the absence of anyone else identified to post next week's definiton, I will post one for bhAga tyAga lakShaNa. Could I make two requests, please. Firstly that those members who have already offered their services for definitions, either mark up the spreadsheet in the files section or email me to tell me when they can post their topic. If they say 'anytime', I will schedule them and let them know when they are due. Secondly, could I ask again that some more members volunteer for this. There are probably at least 600 of you out there with greater than 10 years experience of Advaita (based upon the poll results so far) and so perfectly capable of supplying a definition suitable for a beginner. PLEASE! Dennis
Guest guest
Namaste dear Dennis-ji: I plan to post this week's definition at Sunday morning (USA time). I am now back to my Mysore residence and I should be able to honor my commitment. I agree with you 100 percent that the postings and suggestions for postings should only be coordinated through one person - the chief moderator. It is a good idea for members to send their suggestions to Dennis-ji instead of sending it to the list. Warmest regards, Ram Chandran advaitin , " advaitins " <advaitins wrote: > > Could I make two requests, please. Guest guest
namaskarams to all following is from my daily writings as and when i feel.may be posted if found suitable. baskaran Aham brahma Asmi/Rain drops All the Mahavakyams of Upanishads set me thinking as to how to know the unknowable. “I am Brahman” remains a mere set of words until one reaches that stage where it is revealed by the blessing of the very supreme Brahman. Many analogies are written and one such thing is the wave and ocean. Is just a drop of water the same as the ocean, as mighty and unfathomable-powerful as in pralaya the cosmic dissolution? Well we are to understand that the intrinsic quality of a drop of water and the ocean is the same-just H2O or H2O with minerals? If so the concept of Advaitha and Dwaitha come in to play and we are tempted to choose Dwaitha to be more reasonable since the baktha to paramatma relationship is more acceptable. But we have the pot clay concept, rope snake concept, etc that brings you to accept Advaitha. Again you still don’t know and have not experienced yourself what great rishis and munis are said to have experienced. As I was contemplating as above, there came a very slight drizzle and a few drops of the rain fell on me that set me thinking more of the rain drops. Am I just like that raindrop falling from the skies having evaporated from the ocean? One is powerless like that rain drop but has come from the mighty ocean. All beings are raindrops falling in various places of the world –across plains-mountains- deserts –rivers, tanks, wells and even a gutter. One takes a birth like a raindrop and is dropped into this world at various levels of the society and in the end reaches back again the ocean to evaporate and fall endlessly. You could be born rich, poor, well placed in life or begging-educated or illiterate, man or woman and so on and on. What if the rain drop falls directly in the ocean itself? Liberation? Like the rain drops one is born somewhere and dies somewhere. Like them one goes through the cycle of birth and death. One is born an American, European or Indian or for that matter as Christian, Muslim or Hindu. Endless cycles of birth and death of infinite number of jeevas right from an amoeba to insects, birds animals and man takes place all the time. Who directs this show on the universe-god the almighty? The order in which the entire show goes on is beyond the comprehension for a human being with limitations. You are part of this greatest show and your job is to only act and not ask why I am so limited. Am I a rain drop of that ocean Brahman To that supreme Brahman whom I worship as lord Krishna, siva, muruga and sakthi I surrender in total to bless me never to return to this world of birth and death?
