Guest guest
Namaste, all Respected Members, In the Mahavakya “Aham brahmasmi” the “I” or Aham referred to is the “i” stripped of all its limitations, which are just appearances. They are just appearances because such limitations does not appear to be there during deep sleep. That “I” or Aham is Awareness or Consciousness as unfolded in the Mahavakya “Pragnanam Brahma”. It is that “I” or Aham is Ananda itself as it lacks nothing being Poornam or Infinite or “Ananta” as it is Awareness or Consciousness itself, and not limited by Mind, Intellect and Body. This Awareness or Consciousness i.e. “I”, shines always, and one cannot miss it, as every piece of knowledge shines after it or it gives the substratum or Adhara for any piece of knowledge to shine, {including Self Knowledge?}. It is beautifully mentioned in the Kena Upanishad as “Prati Bodha Viditham Matam”. That Consciousness and Awareness can only be recognized or known only when the Mind stuff operates, i.e. Mind and Budhi. During deep sleep, the mind stuff does not limit the “I” or Aham, and because of that there is no particular knowledge or there is “total ignorance” during deep sleep. Total ignorance is bliss and the bliss or Ananda, which one says he enjoyed during the deep sleep on waking up from deep sleep, is that Ananda or bliss because of total ignorance, and the Ananda of “I” or Aham is equated to that Ananda. However, the difference is during waking state a Gnani with Self Knowledge, recognizes and appreciates that Ananda all the time or it is never absent for him, and for others, though Ananda shines itself all the time, being “I” or Aham which is Poornam, ignorance, about the nature, swaroopa, of the self or “I” or Aham covers that Ananda, and this covering of Ananda makes us all search for it throughout our lives, as the ignorance of the swaroopa of “I” is only partial and not total as in deep sleep. If the ignorance about the swaroopa or nature of the Self or “I” was total, no problem would have been there, and nobody would search for it, as in deep sleep. Actually, we are all searching for what is already there and shines, (i.e. Sadhana is for Praptasya Praptam i.e. gaining what is already gained). Such gaining is not actual gaining but recognizing what is already gained or what is already there. I think it is what is meant by “Pratyabhigna”. I am only trying to share whatever I managed to assimilate from my study and I look forward to the leaned members of the Group to correct me. With warm regards Mani R. S.
