Guest guest
Sri Hanuman Jayanthi is being celebrated in many area temples today . It is my pleasure to write a few paragraphs on this great devotee of Sri Rama. May i please share the following verse in this context? This verse is from Bhatruhari's Niti Shatakam Keyoorani na bhooshayanthi purusham haara na chandrojwalaa Na snanam na vilepanam na kusumam naalamkritha moordhajaha, Vaanyekaa samalamkarothi purusham yaa samskrithaa dhaaryatey Ksheeyanthey khalu bhooshanani sathatham vaag-bhooshanam bhooshanam. What is the best Ornament that decorates a human being? The usual ornaments like the braceletsor the necklaces that are as lustrousas the shining moon do not really decorate a person; Nor taking baths frequently, nor applying make-up with cosmetics, nor the flowers that are worn on the braid of hair on the head What really determines the adornment of a person. ***The art of speech*** well delivered grammatically and perfectly, alone really adorns a person. All the other ornaments do perish; but the ornament of speech is a constant ornament that decorates a human being at all times. In the Ramayana, It is Vir Bhakta Hanuman who is known for the 'art of speech' In the introductory talk he gave to Sri Rama and Lakshmana on his frst meeting with them,he impressed Sri Rama so much with his eloquence, that Rama praised his speech to the skies. The speech revealed the speaker's knowledge of all the Vedas;it was neither too long nor too short; It was rendered without any grammatical flaw, with the least effort and at the right pitch.Hearing the speech, even an enemywith a drawn sword will be humoured to friendship.A king who has such an envoy who knows the art of good speech, can achieve anything in the world. This was what Sri Rama felt about SRI HANUMAN'S ORATORIAL SKILLS ! YES! Lord HANUMAN WAS well versed in the four books of knowledge (the Vedas), the six systems of philosophies (darshanas), the sixty-four arts or kalas and the one hundred and eight occult mysteries of the Tantras. and, his Guru was none other Than the Sun God, Surya ! MAY I KINDLY DRAW THE ATTENTION OF MEMBERS ( OLD AND NEW) TO THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE OF PROFESSOR V. KRISHNAMURTHY IN THE ADVAITIN MESSAGE ARCHIVES ? advaitin/message 28252 Professorji describes beautifully how adept Lord Hanuman is in the art of Fine Speech ! On another note, Putranji mentioned about sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in one of his posts in another context . Anytime Paramahamsa's name is mentioned i go ecstatic for my gurudeva BRAHMANSHAKTI IS FROM THAT GREAT LINEAGE ! May i please share with you on this great occassion of Hanuman Jayanthi what Sri Ramakrishna used to say about Lord Hanuman's Dasya Bhakti ? Paramahansa was fond of quoting this verse all the time ... ( it is in the gospel of Ramakrishna) Sri Rama asked Hanuman: " Hanuman, what attitude do you cherish towards Me? " Hanuman answered : " Dehadrshtyaa tu daasoham Jivadrshtyaa tvadanshakah vastutastu tvamevaaham iti me nischitaa matih " " O Rama! When I think I am the body, You are the Master and I am Your servant, when I think I am the jivatman (embodied individual soul), You are the whole and I am a part ; but when I have the Knowledge of Reality, I see that you are I and I am You. " Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa also said: " There are different levels among the devotees of God: superior, mediocre and inferior. All this has been described in the Gita. The inferior devotee says, 'God exists, but He is very far off, up there in heaven.' The mediocre devotee says, 'God exists in all beings as life and consciousness.' The superior devotee says: 'It is God Himself who has become everything; whatever I see is only a form of God. It is He alone who has become Maya, the universe, and all living beings. Nothing exists but God.' Jai Bajaranga Bali ! (Putranji : you occasionally come and post many messages and thgen disappear only to come back again . This is well and good ! But when you reincarnate again, we will discuss about 'sampradaya ' and Chitta , my all time favorite whose lively and knowledgeble contributions are still adorning the advaitin archives ! for now , enjoy your well earned break! smile:-) )
Guest guest
advaitin , " dhyanasaraswati " <dhyanasaraswati wrote: Dearest mAtAji, Namaste, I am tempted to add :-) few more sayings of Sri Ramakrishna on Brahman and Shakti which are as under: When the Supreme Being is thought of as action less - neither creating, sustaining nor destroying - I call Him by the name of Brahman or Purusha. But when I think of Him as active--creating, sustaining and destroying-I call Him by the name of Sakti or Maya or Prakriti. The distinction between Brahman and Sakti is really a distinction without a difference. Brahman and Sakti are one (Abheda), just as fire and its bunting power are one. Brahman and Sakti are one, just as milk and the whiteness of milk are one. Brahman and Sakti are one, just as a gem and its brightness are one. You cannot conceive of one without the other, or make a difference between them. Right discrimination is of two kinds-analytical and synthetical. The first leads one from the phenomena to the Absolute Brahman, while by the. second one knows how the Absolute Brahman appears as the universe. And finally: My Divine Mother is the one Being manifested as many. Of infinite power Herself, She has differentiated Herself into Jiva and Jagat (living beings and the universe) of manifold powers,-physical, intellectual, moral and spiritual. And my Divine Mother is none other than the Brahman of the Vedant. She is the Personal aspect of the Impersonal Brahman. JAI MAA! Yours in Sri Ramakrishna, Br.
