Jnana confers humility

The spiritual teaching in the Bhagavad Gita focuses on the nature of

the soul and its relationship to the outside world and of the

Supreme Being who is the Absolute Reality in full control of the

entire creation. Probing the basic question " What am I " is the

beginning of the quest for self-realisation that leads to God

realisation. Lord Krishna emphasises that knowledge of the truth

when understood as experience is the highest spiritual attainment

and this is possible through determined effort and patient striving.

The evil-minded do not seek refuge in God. Being foolish and

imagining that they know everything, they are deluded and turn away

from truth.

On the other hand, those who seek God are the virtuous and those

purified by their good deeds, though the motive in seeking Him may

vary. Some seek God to be relieved of their sorrows and distress,

some wish to know the Supreme Nature of God and some others seek God

in the hope of obtaining wealth, health and worldly attainments; but

in the case of realised souls, it is their spiritual discrimination

that leads them to seek God as the ultimate goal of life. They are

in constant union with the divine and their devotion is single

minded. To come across such a Mahatma is a rare phenomenon. Such a

person sees the Lord's presence in all objects of the world.

It takes many births for a wise man to resort to God and the

cumulative effort of the Jivatma through every birth makes God

realisation possible. One has to elevate oneself from the pulls and

attractions of the world and be focussed on God. Only then can one

experience the depths of God's magnitude and probe the complexities

to unravel the truth that the Lord is the pervading force in all

created objects, animate and inanimate.

Spiritual attainment is possible only through time, effort and

determination. Understanding the truth of God's magnificence and the

nature of the soul's dependence and relationship with Him brings

about absolute humility and awe in one's realisation.

The Jnani knows God as He is, and loves Him for what He is.
