Guest guest
All adarniya Namaskar. Lord krisna says in Bhagvadgita Anashritah karmfalam karyam karm karoti yah I Sa sanyashi cha yogi cha na niragnir na cha akriya II..(.6/1 ); Here akriya means stage of " Nirvikalpa samadhi (waveless condition of mind) " which is the last step of Patanjli Yoga. .Patanjli defines yoga " yogaschitta vrati nirodhah " means when ever from every senses , mind , intellect also in condition of inaction. There is no wave in the mind. This is the exteme condition of inaction and person in this condition is called " akriya (not doing any action) " .. In above cited shloka Lord Krishna says that akriya is neither " yogee " nor " sanyasi " . Who perform his duty without desire is yogee and sanyasi. Lord Krisna says that yoga is the cleverness in action " Yogah Karmasu Koushalam.......2/50 whereas Maharshi Patanjal says inaction of mind is called yoga. Yoga of Lord Krisna is related to action whereas Yoga of Patanjli is related to inaction. So Both yogas are different and opposite from each other. At present yoga of Maharshi Patanjli is established as yoga at present. Am I right? Comment please. Download prohibited? No problem! CHAT from any browser, without download. Here is my understanding of the above sloka. If you examine the development of the thoughts and questions by Arjuna (see 3rd and 5th ch.) - yoga refers to karma yoga and sanyaasa as emphasized in both 4th ch - jnaana karma sanyaasa and 5th ch. karma sanyaasa is renunciation of action to pursue jnaana yoga - also referred to saankhya. lokesmin dvidhaa nishTaa puraa proktaa mayaa anaghaa| jnaana yogena sankhyaanam karma yogena yoginaam|| In the 4th ch. Krishna emphasizes how one can be akarthaa while karyam is being performed. This is further emphasized in the two slokas naiva kinchit karOmeeti yuket manyeta tatva vit| pasyan shRiNvan spRishan jighran .. indriyaaNi indriyaartheShu vartante iti dhaarayan|| I am not a doer while the all the doing is going on by the indriyaas or senses as they are involved with their sense objects. But Krishna also warns - not doing an action like a lazy boy is not sanyaasa either - and that is the warning implied in the last of the sloka you mentioned. One who is sanyaasi is the one deeply involved in the action with any notion of doership nor enjoyer ship and therefore no expectation in the results of any action - whether he is a jnaana yogi or karma yogi - (sa sanyaasi ca yogi ca) - he is the real sanyaasi but not the one who refuses to act when the action is needed - na niragnir na cha akriya - niragniH - I would interpret here as the one who does not have the fire of inspiration - lethargic like a stone - he is not a sanyaasi. One feels - akartaaham abhoktaaham - I am neither doer nor enjoyer - when the dynamic inspired action is going on. I do not see any reference to patanjali yoga here or smaadhi aspect. Anyway that is my understanding. Hari Om! Sadananda
