Guest guest
Seeking the Absolute CHENNAI : The quest of every Jivatma is to invoke the Supreme Being for His sake. But the Supreme Being cannot be known easily since one has to venture into the realms of the infinite. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says that the Supreme Being is not recognisable because He remains Absolute, unmanifest, changeless and eternal. Though the Lord is present everywhere, He remains hidden behind the veil of Maya. Many consider Him as finite and find it easier to worship God in the form of a deity rather than practise meditation on His formless aspect. Swami Mitrananda pointed out in a lecture that the mist enveloping the truth will fade away when the knowledge of God shines in one's understanding. The thoughts pertaining to the world and nature form a curtain to hide the Lord though in reality it is God who illumines the thought. The Lord is the power that makes one speak, listen etc. The object of search is the Lord and He is present in the seeker. Jnana is the awareness of the immortal and imperishable Atma that is present in the body and of its identity with the Supreme Being. Belief, trust and faith are essential in this quest. Beliefs can change but faith is the strong foundation on which trust is built and reinforced with clear understanding. The Lord steadies the faith of those who worship Him (in whatever form they choose to) by granting the wishes they seek. Endowed with that faith an individual worships that particular form of God. Attaining one's desires deepens the faith. But from seeking worldly gains that merely delude, one should gradually evolve to seek the Absolute. Otherwise life passes on even as the real is forgotten and the shadows that delude and appear as real are sought. Whether one seeks money, power, fame or the Lord Himself, one gets what he seeks, provided one seeks with faith. Those who invoke the Supreme are able to attain the Supreme. So once we know that getting the Lord is getting everything we should aim for it. If we only stay in the finite field we are losing something great that is the infinite.
