Guest guest
This is a Topic right after my heart, Harsha-ji!and you have done 'wonders' with it - specially Sri Ramana's quotes on his Beloved Arunachala . Yes- some call this philosophy ( love for Truth) as an eternal Love affair, others call it Romantic mysticism - Vaishnavites call it the 'Madhurya bhava ' and Sufi saints call it the the 'wedding night - the union of the individual soul with the Super soul. Rumi sings raptuorously thus about his 'Yaar ( beloved God)- in the following love poem , Rumi measures the level of his relationship with the lord as 'intimate ' that of a lover and a beloved!Yes! Rumi uses the metaphor of Love between bride and groom very effectively to express the desire for union of the individual soul with the Divine ! Tonight is the night. It's the creation is the night. It's the creation of that land of eternity. It's not an ordinary night, it's a wedding of those who seek Love. Tonight, the bride and groom speak in one tongue. Tonight, the bridal chamber is looking particularly bright. (http://www.rumi.net/rumi_by_shiva.htm) - this is a beautiful site with wonderful translations of Rumi's love poems ! Let us 'whirl' ! Such mysticism is expressed in christianity in the writings of St.Augustine and St.Theresa of Avilla, and John of the cross! In the Canticle of The Soul and The Bridegroom by John of the cross translated by David Lewis , St.John addresses his beloved thus Reveal Thy presence, And let the vision and Thy beauty kill me, Behold the malady Of love is incurable Except in Thy presence and before Thy face. http://.ccel.org/ccel/john_cross/canticle.txt In our own Hindu philosophy, this type of Madhurya Bhava or Rasa is best expressed in the love poems of Mirabhai, Vaishnavite saints Like Aandal and Kannada saint Akkamadevi's poems ! In this poem. Saint Akka imagines herself to be the bride of Chenna Mallikarjuna ( lord shiva who is as white as the jasmine flower) and expresses her undying Love for the lord! Bridal Mysticism I love the Handsome One: he has no death decay or form no place or side no end nor birthmarks. I love him O mother. Listen. I love the Beautiful One with no bond nor fear no clan no land no landmarks for his beauty. So my lord, white as jasmine, is my husband. Take these husbands who die, decay, and feed them to your kitchen fires! (translated by A.K. RAMANUJAM ) http://www.poetry-chaikhana.com/M/mahadeviAkka/loveHsomeOn.htm Harshaji , you got me all started on this fascinating topic - i was resting quitely in my little corner eating a humble pie after the issue of the 'yellow card' ... On another note , does anyone direct me to the source of he English Translation of Radha Madhavam written by Shri Atmananda- yes ! Love ( for Truth) and devotion go hand in hand ! Love and regards advaitin , Harsha wrote: > > Dear Friends: > > I have posted a new article titled, " Lovers Love Completely: The Goddess > Mystery " on > > > >
Guest guest
Thank you for your kind comments Dhyansaraswati-Ji and your excellent response with many other examples of the mystical union between the devotee and the divine beloved. Guest guest
My pleasure, entirely dear Harsha-ji! btw, the url i gave in my post was incorrect... the corrected URL is http://www.ccel.org/ccel/john_cross/canticle.txt and not http://.ccel.org/ccel/john_cross/canticle.txt On another note, since i posted my message , i have also come to know that Shri Atmananda's Radha Madhavam has been translated into English by his western disciple John Levy. May i please request any learned member to direct me to that beautiful work ? btw , harshaji ! this is simply ecstatic - these words in your article ! " Some say that it is the Goddess Herself, who takes the devotee into the Heart and then reveals Herself as the Universal Heart. The complete identity between the devotee, the Goddess, and the Heart thus established, everything disappears. There is only that Heart of Love and Fullness, eternal consciousness completely at rest in its own nature. Knowing That is Self-Knowledge. That is the final consummation. " I came to feed on Thee, but Thou hast fed on me; now there is peace, Oh Arunachala! " Verse 28. Marital Garland of Letters. " wow! what a feast! thanx , once again love and regards advaitin , " dhyanasaraswati " <dhyanasaraswati wrote: > > This is a Topic right after my heart, Harsha-ji!and you have > done 'wonders' with it - specially Sri Ramana's quotes on his > Beloved > Arunachala .
