Guest guest
Namaste: I want to thank Sri Nagraj for his comments and suggestions on behalf of all the moderators. As per his suggestion, I will try to incorporate Swami Dayananda Saraswati's more detailed explanations as much as possible. The site with the following link: advaitin provides all the stored files at the site. In the above folde, if you click on the folder Bhagawad Gita Commentaries and References one can access and down load all the commentaries further study. Since the list does not want to include attachments with the email (allowing attachments can potentially intrduce viruses and hence we do not allow them) only text messages can be sent. We will try our level best (with all your help and especially with the help of those with strong Sanskrit background) to bring the subtle messages as much as possible. Satsangh can greatly benefit from participation by a larger section of the membership with thoughtful insights. Harih Om! Ram Chandran Bhagawad Gita ----- Forwarded Message ---- Jan Nagraj jannagraj Pranams. My grateful thanks for the Gita satsangh class you are conducting. You are doing a great service for us. I note that you have provided your explanations with minimal use of the Samskrit words. I am aware that people hold views that are both for and against the extensive use of samskrit words. In a recent post # 37165, Shri.Profvkji had given the meaning of " athindriyo mahamayo.. " of Vishnu Sahasranama (VS). The word 'anirdeshyam' appears in both VS and BG - Ch 12. v.3. Swami Paramarthananda in the commentaries on his website gave the same meaning for 'avyaktham' as profvkji gave for 'athindriyam'. Coincidentally, he quoted the same vedic verse, " ashabdam, asparsham... " when a student like myself connect VS, BG and Upanishads this way, we feel elated. The connecting link among all the above was the Samskrit words. If both Profvkji & Swamiji have confined solely to the English meaning only, I would not have been able to see the link among these texts. If someone were to give me the English meaning of all the namas of VS, it would not bring out the Bhakti bhava that we admire in others and aspire for in ourselves. One of my gurus, who taught us some of the chapters of BG is a psychiatrist by profession who had attended Sunday bal vihar classes at Bangalore at the Chinmaya Mission, later on followed Swami Dayananda Saraswathi. He acquired sufficient knowledge to be able to conduct the classes for us. When I expressed a desire to learn Samskrit grammer etc to be able to follow the Scriptures he told me that I should instead try to learn the meaning of all the 1008 names of the Lord in Vishnu Sahasranama; after all my intent is not to compose but to understand what is already written in the Scriptures. He thought that my efforts would be more efficacious, since the purpose of learning Samskrit is to appreciate the glory of Iswara. I request you to consider the following suggestion. One post may be in the same format as you have used for verse 3 & 4. This might be followed by another post in the same thread with word for word meaning for each Samskrit words, wherein you can incorporate Sankara Bhashya, Swami Dayananda Saraswathi's detailed explanations etc. Recently Shri. Sadanandaji has written excellent posts on the Oneness that pervades in all things and beings. He can continue to provide us with the theme of Brahma Vidya in Gita. Sri. SNSastriji can incorporate the Upanishadic teachings by giving the meaning of every word in the same format, he has used in the " Gita - Explanation of terms " in his website. Profvkji can explain to us how and why BG is Yoga Sastra and also incorporate the Sthothras & hymns like Vishnu Sahasranamam. You can take care of the Sama vada between Arjuna and Krishna! A tall order perhaps, but then the devotees of Krishna and BG are never satisfied. Sometimes, I think Arjuna only pretended not to understand, so that Krishna would never quit teaching him! With warm regards, Jan Nagraj P.S. Please feel free to share the contents with the moderators and others as may be required.
