Guest guest
Some simple axioms in plain language may help the discussion on sushupti. (1) The same thing cannot have two beginnings in time. This is akin to the homely metaphor of Shankara's about the 'drop of water' in B.S.B. III.ii.9. Here we are staying with the relative understanding of 'same' without bouncing into the empyrean absolute of 'all is one'. (2) If I do not experience something I cannot have a memory of it. The knowledge that we have been in a state of deep sleep is not a memory. (3) The individual brain is inert matter. It only becomes an individual mind when it is pervaded by pure consciousness. N.B. Pervasion is metaphorical, there is no action by pure consciousness. (4) However slight, there is some brain activity in Deep Sleep. Experiments in the phenomenon of circadian rhythms seem to show that there is a natural cycle of activity of around 24 hours. There is then no absolute blankness as it were.
