Question about the devanagari writing of AUM (or OM)

Dear all:

If it is considered an appropiate question for this forum, I would

like to know what is the " right " devanagari way to write AUM or OM

when it is in the context of OM TAT SAT. Unfortunately I cannot post

images to show you my confusion. But for example, at the end of Ramana

Maharshi's Talks, it is written OM TAT SAT, but the word OM is not the

common A-U-M symbol that we usually recognize everywhere, but

apparently is just the letters O-M put together in devanagari. The

same as the first verse of the Mandukya Upanishad (Hari AUM/OM), that

in Swami Nikhilananda's sanskrit version is different than others

found in the internet (it is the same as the one in Ramana's book).

My question is, are there many ways to convey AUM/OM in devanagari?

Does it change AUM/OM in relation to the context it is in?

Thank you all.

Respectfully,

Mouna

Namaste dear Sri Mauna:

I suggest that you check the following link for Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Om

A complete answer to your question is provided there. Om and Aum are

equivalent and Aum precisely provides the clue for pronounciation of

the letter. The list archives also contain lots of related

discussions on this subject area. You can collect the discussion by

using the key word search.

With my warmest regards,

Ram Chandran
