Guest guest
Sri Ramji : This seems to be a very popular verse " na tatra sUryo bhAti na candra-tArakaM naimA vidyuto bhAnti kuto'yam-agniH / tameva bhAntaM anubhAti sarvaM tasya bhAsA sarvam-idaM vibhAti // " May i also add that this popular verse was quoted by our most beloved Sri Ananda-ji in his weekly definition on 'Chit ' or consciousness in Message #35583 in the Advaitin Archives ! This verse quoted in the context of 'chit' takes on a beauty /divinity all on its own! This abala nari ( in my previous incarnation as Dhyanasaraswati ) quoted the same verse in message number 36533 as well ! and this brings up Sri Ramji writes : This verse appears in Mundaka upanishad, II-2-10. Ramji, may i also add that this popular verse( na tatra suryo bhaati) also appears in the following upanishads besides Mundaka upanishad ! Katha upanishad -Kathopanishad II-V-15 Svetasvatara Upanishad VI-14). and oF course in Srimad BHAGVAD GITA CHAPTER 15 , VERSE 6 This brings up an important question which i would like to ask the learned members here ! There are many verses which are common in many upanishads and the same verse also appears in the Srimad Bhagvad gita - one example is ' na tatra suryo bhaati " Another example is nayam atma pravacanena labhyo na medhaya na bahudha srutena yam evaisa vrnute tena labhyas tasyaisa atma vivrnute tanum svam (katha upanishad 1.2.23) This Supreme Self cannot be reached by argumentation, or by applying one's independent brain power, or by studying many scriptures. Rather, he alone can achieve the Supreme Lord whom the Lord chooses to favor. To that person the Lord reveals His own true, personal form. " the same verse also appears in Mundaka upanishad (3.2.4) and i am sure learned sadhakas in this group will find many similarities between verses in the Srimad Bhagvad gita and the major upanishads ! Therefore 'Truth is one ' but interpretations and variations are many and so are the contexts IN WHICH THEY ARE QUOTED ! For example , the same verse was quoted by professorji while describing 'brahman' and by anandaji while describing 'chit' ! Folks what is brahman but chit ? smile :-) Aum Shanti ! Shanti ! Shantihi! (while quoting upanishadic verse, gurudebva told me we should always conclude by saying the om shanti chant) Are you sure you want to send this message? --- ----------- 2007 Inc. All rights reserved.
